Hey -
I used to use whey protein but have switched to soy b/c it doesn't upset my stomach. Yay :) Very happy to figure out that one.

So...I've got Trader Joe's Soy Protein right now & it's pretty good, but doesn't blend as well as whey protein - it gets kind of cakey. I mix it w/soy milk, water & some frozen berries using a hand blender.

Any tips or other soy proteins to try? I'm in the US, like to buy online, but don't want to spend (much) more than I was spending for my whey.

Thanks!
Kirby

I have never used soy protein, nor of course bought it. Your best bet may be to go to a vegetarian discussion board and see what folks say there. Good luck to you. I have a couple listed, I will list them for you when I am at that computer if you don't find one.

My wife uses soy in addition to whey as a mrp. Seems there are female benifits ranging from osteoperosis prevention to menopausal/female symptom relief. I'll get the website and post here or have her e-mail you. the documentary evidence this site mentions is pretty convencing.

Here is one I have given other folks, they seem to like it. Lots of vegetarian bodybuilders, they will surely lead you in the right direction. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/vegetarianbodybuilder/

Kirby, I think soy is soy. Her soy shakes are tasty. The menopause thing is an added benifit. It won't make you menopausal. lol. The sight just seemed to be written from a viewpoint of long term benefits for females. It also has a good selection of soy bars, nuts?.,and other magical treats that we have found fun to try.

Try to stay with soy proteins that have not been acid washed - they maintain more of their natural benenfits. Also, many of the proteins on the market today use genetically altered soy beans, so, if you care about that, keep an eye out for that as well.

Don't know anything about what rev said, will have to study up on that, but I use Geni-Soy plain protein powder to cook with. And their flavored ones aren't bad either. And even though EAS gets a bad rap here, I have used both their Vanilla and Chocolate Soy Protein Powders for Shakes. I switched to the whey due to the advice I've gotten here, but I have to say that it goes right through me so I don't know if I am getting the benefits I'm supposed to.

I'm new to all of this. 30 y.o. / 6'1" / 160lb vegetarian. I'm looking at supplements for the first time. There is a lot of talk on the board about Whey vs. Soy protein. Is there any difference aside from personal preference? I went to a sports nutrition store and not being familiar with the products, I was very overwhelmed.

Whey is best used as a post workout protein. Soy, casin, egg, and others are better for AM or PM supplementation. Nothing beats eating it in whole food in your normal diet.
