Hello All,

I have been looking through my workout this week. It's showing that I need to do an exercise on a machine that my apartment complex doesn't have. Should I just switch that out with another one?

That really sucks too, wish the apartments had it. It'd be a good one to have.

You can always substitute a similar exercise for one that is not available. It should target the same muscle. What machine is it?

It was the inside and outside leg machines. I forget exactly what it's called. It's where you sit in the chair and pull your legs out or push your legs out and back in.

Any suggestions on which one will go good for a replacement?

Thanks for your help azredhead. :)

I answered this one yesterday, but it must've gotten lost in cyberspace. We have a similar machine but you stand in it. You can do these same exercises with resistance bands or a cable machine, that has ankle or leg attachments.

So where do you get the resistance bands and stuff like that? I'm trying to do my workout from home and in a small fitness center in an apartment complex.

Also, azredhead do you know which would be the best place for me to look for a work out matt? One like you would put in your living room floor?

Thanks for the help!

I have found all of those things at my local Walmart in the sporting goods dept. Mat, swiss ball, resistance bands, small db's. You could also find them at a sporting goods store. BB1fit, just gave me a link to an at home workout using the bands. I will find it and give it to you.

Hey there azredhead. :) Me again! hehe

Question

When you're doing the stretches and stuff that it puts in the beginning and middle of workouts... how long and how many times should you do those stretches?

Also what would you suggest for a pre-workout meal and a post-workout meal? Something light I know but like what types of meals should I plan for that ? An apple or a turkey sandwich? (ex.)

:)

Hey there azredhead. I found the stuff I needed at the Oshmans here.

The floor mat was only 14.95 and it's about 1" thick. Much better than the prices on-line.

Also found 2 resistance tube/bands, one long and one short for 12.95

And 2 5 pound db's for 4.49 each.

I'm all set now. So I can change all the work out stuff back to what it was originally.

I'm still doing good. Did my work out every day last week 'cept Friday, had to leave to go out of town. But Saturday morning I walked around in the woods for a couple of hours so I'm sure that made up for some of what I missed.

Back at it today though. Ugh some of those leg lifts kick my rear end. hehe ... When you do the leg lifts are you supposed to inhale when you bring your legs up or when you let them down?

On breathing, I've always understood that you breathe out on the exertion part of the movement. Glad you found everything you need. Do you have a swiss ball? If not, make that your next investment. Around $15, but a great tool. And they usually come with a chart of various exercises. As for pre-workout I will have to defer to someone else as I still haven't figured that one out. Some people eat a lot and some don't. I know you need carbs and protein, but the percentages depend on what your goals are and your program. I personally can't eat too close to my workout, so I usually have my chicken, rice, broccoli meal 2-3 hours before and then have a Zone or Balance Bar 1/2 to 1 hour before. Post workout you should have a whey protein drink within 30 min of finishing and a balanced meal with plenty of protein about an hour after that.

I think I got the wrong bands. UGH! they wore me out! LOL I think I probably should have gotten the long ones instead of the short ones. I was MAJOR burning when I tried to do two of the exercises. ouchies! So I think I'll ask my sweetie to pick up some of the longer bands next time we hit wal-mart or something. hhehehe

Any kind of stretches you can suggest for a stiff neck or shoulders?

There are different grades of resistance with the bands. At the gym, they are colored and the blue one has the least resistance and the gray one has the most. I usually ust the red or black, they are in between. I know you can get a really good workout with those though. The best stretches I know of for stiff muscles are the ones done in the spa.....lol.
