Which way are you talking about? Cardio? Weights? Both togethjer will be a great help. Anything is better than none. Welcome to freetrainers and good luck.

I would suggest you start running, and start a regime of PUSHUPS. Basic training (when your not eating, sleeping, or learning to be a soldier) is all about endurance. How many pushups can you endure. And how far can you run. You might even want to run and do your pushups with a pack on. Use one that fits and put some weight in it(stuff it full of clothes)The trick in Basic is to be able to run futher and do more pushup than the next guy. This way your drill sargent will be screaming at him(or her) and not at you!!! P.S. Hope your a morning person.

Before boot camp 30 years ago I roe a bicycle on 3 1000 to 2000 mile trips through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Boot camp was a walk in the park.

If I am not mistaking the old BMX routine was an 11 minute mile. Anyway I would take the advice from both the above posts, and also in your cardio build in intervals. You will make great gains.
Good luck.

Also when doing push ups make sure you are doing complete repetitions, I thought I could do over 80 push-ups before I went to basic training. It was then I realized that I was not doing complete repetitions. By complete repetitions I mean, going down so far that your elbows are slightly below your back, and all the way up where you elbows are pretty much locked. My first couple of years in the military my push-ups were my week point, until I started doing close handed push-ups. This strengthened the triceps and enabled me to do a lot more push-ups. Now I easily do 80-90 push-ups in less than two minutes. Make sure you work on the sit ups as well. And definatly start running, by the end of basic you will be able to minimally have to run 5 miles.
