Hello,

I changed my diet and took my car off the road so I had to bike and walk everywhere and sold my video games. I went from 215 to 185lbs since August. I'm 22 years old and bought a Crossbow a couple days ago. I just want to look good and tone up. I don't want too much mass. I realize only I can know when and what is right for me. But, I don't know how I should feel. I started out with a chest workout where I completed 3 chest exercises consisting of 3 sets of 10 reps at a constant weight(resistance in my case). My muscles felt sore afterword but I was fine 24hrs later. Should I feel like I can't work that muscle out for more than a day? The FT exercise program says I should only do 2 exercises a day, this just seems like too little for me.

My other problem is, as a student, I don't think I can afford suppliments. My diet consists of cereal, glass of juice, and a couple of fruits before noon and a dinner of steak or chicken breast, lots of fresh veggies, and a glass of milk. This seems like too little energy but I feel like I could work out each muscle every other day.

Any comments would be appreciated.

first off congratulations on your accomplishment!! Way to go! Now, as far as how you should feel, feeling sore just one day is just fine. In fact, you will most probably get to the point where you don't feel sore at all, and you will think you are doing something wrong. Don't worry about this, just keep pushing the resistance as high as you can getting in your desired reps, but making it so the last couple reps are a good challenge. If you feel that 3 exercisew work well for you, then by all means do this.

Now, here is the biggie. Your second part question. You NEED protein at each meal. The body cannot store it, so if it needs amino acids for any reason, guess where it goes to get it?? Your muscles that you just worked so hard for. You really do not "need" to get a protein supplement, but include protien in each of your meals. But to optimize your gains, you may want to consider a protein supplement post workout. You can get Optimum Whey for very cheap, $20 at even GNC. This is due to they reformulated it, and this is the old blend but still fine for post workout.
