I'm burnt out. I never thought being a student would be as time consuming and exhausting as it has been lately! It seems like I never have time for anything other than school. My poor husband, we've only been married about seven months and I haven't seen him almost all week! I only made it to the gym twice this week...I don't even have time for myself! Yes, I'm complaining.....I'm just so tired..... I was up until 12:30 last night trying to prepare an oral argument for my contracts class (which I had to finish at 5:00 am this morning) after spending four and a half hours in the library trying to learn the federal rules of civil procedure, and this was after I spent 6 hours in class.....My exhaustion is having a horrible effect on my workouts....though I can say my diet hasn't varied greatly. It's very frustrating! Finals are coming up in about a month, so it's only going to get worse. Maybe this is what I get for slacking in undergrad...ha ha ha.....*sigh*....... Anyone have any advice (besides choosing another profession!!!!) on how I can get my energy (and maybe some time for my hubby) back?

I went to law school...It killed the relatinoship I was in at the time. My first year I use to wake up at four in the morning with anxiety attacks. Your in Contracts and Civ Pro so I assume it is your first year. I suggest you calm down and take a look at the 2 and 3L's. Do they seem as stressed as you? No. Why? Because they have figured out that there is no way in hell to learn everything in the book so they supplament it with legallines and Emanuals. If you don't have these get them. You still need to read the cases but these help you not stare at them to much. I use to read the Emanuals first and then read the case book, it helped a lot. Keep up the exercise to help cut the stress and give your husband some quality time (you will need him to run out and buy you new highlighters during dead week LOL). Good luck!!-------------- Anything is better than nothing so get off your ass and do something!!! |

I feel sorry for you; I'm in a position now NOT to have a real girlfriend. I'm married to my gym, my job, and my school. She be there when I'm done...or not. :)) But I'll be buff, rich, and smart, respectively :))-------------- --There are no versions of the truth.-- Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic Park II |

I was there too...it was the most exhausting thing I have ever experienced. I had to quit working out and my boyfriend who lived 1 hr away broke up with me 'cause I never had time for him. It would help to put your priorities in order...concentrate on school and instead of going to the gym alone go with your husband or find something else the both of you can do that's physical and enjoyable :) Best of luck to you!

I'm in the middle of my 2nd year of law school, and I know exactly how you are feeling. As far as school, definitely take upatrail's advice and use commercial aids; Legalines and Emmanuel's (esp. Crunchtime Series) are good, and Aspen's Examples and Explanations helped make CivPro my highest grade so far. Also,I try to get as much reading done as possible on the weekends so I only have to review for 20 minutes or so before class each day and it really frees up time. As far as your husband, the only thing I can recommend is to make any activity an activity for the both of you, if possible. I didn't pay enough attention to my gf last year and lost her for it, so I now know how important it is to squeeze in every valuable minute you can with your other half. You guys are awesome! Thanks for all of the advice! Things seem to be looking up. (Finally!) I haven't gotten any outlines yet (textbook dept is closed at the bookstore and online takes 3 weeks to ship--finals are in 3 weeks) But I'm working on it. I think the 1L lightbulb just went on in my head. Yipppeeee!!!! So I'm diligently plugging away. Hubby is trying to be supportive, it's still a little tense sometimes though. Seems like the only time he wants to talk to me is when I'm doing homework. :( Unfortunatle that means that I often need to sacrifice a few hours of sleep. Ah well, break is coming soon.....focus, focus, focus.......

Hey when the going seems to really get tough-just think of ALL the money you are going to make. That, in itself will motivate most people. I started college late. Worked 3rd shift went to school during the day (Took 6 years). All the while- Raised my family (2 sons, one with special needs), pastored a church, finished school, got a job, went straight to graduate school. I'm through with that now. Thank goodness. Stressful-yes, hard-heck I wasn't very good at school to begin with so-yes, worth it-absolutely. Wouldn't change a thing. Good luck to all who pursue their dreams.
