What are the advantages of adjusting the width of your grip during bench presses or push-ups, or other exercises?

The fact of changing the way you work your muscle fibres will give you the wanted results (that's also why the very best training is when you use both machines, free weights and cables. To vary is not only pleasant but necessairy!).
BUT if you go for your max, then always use the "normal" grip width (to avoid injury).

A closer grip works your triceps more.
