Hi,
My goal in working out is to achieve weight loss and toning through a combination of weight training and cardio activities. I would like to learn/design a weight training program that also achieves cardio benefits: high reps, moderate speed, low wt. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you so much! :-)

Are you male or female? How often are you working out? We need to know more about you, please.

ok I am confused now, I have just found this site and had a routine worked out, for weight loss and toning, but looking at healthnut's post are they saying it doesnt work? Also, my plan has wednesday off but train saturday, unfortunately I can't train of a weekend, would it affect me too much if I was to train wednesday and not at the weekend? one last thing, and sorry to be a pest, but is it advisable to add extra weight after each set or use the same weight for all the sets? thanks ...

I find that the light weight and high reps plan really does not work AS well as a heavier weight lower rep scheme. At least for me. Most women will not use a heavy weight/low rep plan for fear of "getting huge" as Philla and azredhead can attest as well as asimmer and others this is not true for 99.9% of women. AS a man you would be better off adding weight each set and trying to go to failure(where you need help or can not get another rep) usualy 10 reps is the magic number. I like a 10-8-6 rep plan. First set is 10 second is 8 third is 6. Use a light weight for a warm up. Hope this helps. Healthnut I would also suggest that you try a heavier weight trainig plan than you thought to to see what happens

Thanks for the advice 7707mutt, I will take it on board and give it a try, it was suggested that a 5 minute run on a treadmill is a suficient warm up, is this true?

yeah that works just about any type of that kind of warm up will do. some jump rope, others bike. I have seen some do jumping jacks. What ever you need to get it right is ok. Remember to take it easy and slow for about a month to get the feel for the weights, and like I said in another post today make sure your form is as close to perfect as you can get, or I will come out and you will not like that LOL! good luck!
