We know that fat cannot be spot reduced. It comes off wherever it chooses. So what I was wondering was if someone was trying to bulk up by increasing their protein ingestion (such as drinking more protein shakes etc) would the "bulk" be random placement or is there anyway to target specific areas?

You can most definitely target specific areas. Say for instance you just work upper body, (and some folks do), they have a great upper body and stick legs at some point. More protein shakes in general will not make you "bulk up" either, but more good quality food will with adequate protein intake.

Thanks Ron - At the moment I am only drinking shakes on training days, but I'm aiming to gain just a bit more mass on my quads. I eat a lot of natural protein, and was wondering if I should increase protein shakes to every day? Also, can I work the legs/quad areas more than once a week? (I'm one of those people who love leg nites! lol)

Use as heavy a weight as you can, do compound exercises. Squats, squats, and squats. And some heavy leg presses. You will miss out on a golden opportunity to gain mass if you don't supplement immediately with whey and simple sugars post workout. Nutrient uptake is at super compensation time at this time. If you work quads correctly, you will only want to work them once per week. If you do choose to do twice, do a heavy and a light.

I've been weight training for years BUT it's not before drastically upping my total protein intake that I FINALLY began building up lean muscle mass.
It's VERY important for results.
