Deal With Your Emotions
Many of your food cravings have nothing to do with physical cravings and are actually emotionally based. You may associate certain holiday foods with the comfort of your childhood and be tempted to overeat them to try and regain that sense of comfort. Or, the stress of the holidays may be behind your overeating. It’s Just Another Meal Focus on the real meaning of the holidays and you’ll quickly see that family and friends are at the center. Take advantage of this time with your loved ones, and look forward to talking and being with those who you care about, rather than focusing on food. Buy a Special Holiday Outfit This tip can work for both men and women. Whether you decide to indulge in a new blouse, dress or a special shirt and tie, purchase something that you are really looking forward to wearing and that you feel good about. When you feel good about yourself on the outside, it will help you to respect yourself from the inside and you’ll be less inclined to reach for the pumpkin pie. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Stay Focused
Remember what you are doing and why you are doing it. (I am making a lifestyle change for a stronger healthier me) My husband sits on the couch and eats all my favorite junk foods in front of me but it doesn't bother me because I'm focused on me. He's not 100% dedicated like I am and that's O.K. I know what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. Besides .... I finally broke 160 yesterday, I am 159lbs (down from 171 lbs in Oct.) OH MY GOSH!!!!! I can't even remember when I was below 160 That in itself will be enough to hold back temptations. I refuse to gain a pound now that I know how hard it is for me to lose just 1. One last thing ... there are no failures here and if we're doing this right none of us should be "dieting" We can eat whatever we want, within reason, so if you decide to feed the craving, it's o.k. Get back on track tomorrow. -------------- Pauline Serenity is not freedom from the storm but peace amidst the storm. |

An old trick from my dad:
Eat a reasonable meal, and be polite. Don't be "snobby" about eating. After all, Aunt Velma went to a lot of trouble to make her double fried butter sticks (sarcasm). However, when you feel the urge to go back for seconds or hit the refridgerator at midnight for some pumpkin pie, just grit your teeth and do ten pushups instead. I like his advice. Basically, do what I call "damage control." If you've been working hard, you've probably earned a little indulgence. Just don't overdo it. |

Someone give some proven tips on how to turn down 'Aunt _____'s legendary pecan pie without hurting her feelings. Fruit cake is easy but that pie---my gosh!

How about some loving honesty ... "You know I love you and your pecan pie but I am trying to (lose, gain, be healthy). I have been working really hard at (losing, maintaining) and don't want to blow it just because it's the holidays. Please understand it's not personal, I really do love you and your pecan pie but I love where I'm at now (or where I'm heading)
oh crap, that sounds cheesy. O.K., so I tried. LOL How about give in and maintain PORTION CONTROL. It's a good thing Pecan Pie is way to sweet for me to eat more then a bite at a time in one sitting. :-) -------------- Pauline Serenity is not freedom from the storm but peace amidst the storm. |

I hate turkey (unless it's ice cold on bread with mayo and cranberry sauce on it - Mmmmmmmm!); so, that just leaves me lots more room for all of the other evils on my table this year.-------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Yes, my work here is done! |

Ahhh I could never hate turkey. It's good nessssss ... :)
If anyone wants a great drink that goes with turkey / Thanksgiving dinner ... Try Asti Spumonte Champaign. Not sure if I spelled that correctly but it'll have to work. Take a bite of turkey and a small sip of the Asti and it's better than any desert you'll ever have! Well, ok ... not as good as FLAN! That stuff is almost exciting it's so good! hehe |
