Hi everyone. I am looking to drop 40-45 lbs. I work out with weights 5 days a week and do cardio 4 times a week for 30 minute sessions. I usually go to the Gym right after work and Do Cardio and weights every night. I am looking to trim fat and gain mass. However, the weight loss is the primary goal for now. I have lost 40lbs so far without training. I dont have the time to do Cardio before work so is it ok If I do my 30 minutes cardio followed by weights.
My current schedule is
Mon-Cardio and Shoulders
Tue-Cardio and Back
Wed-Cardio and Legs
Thur-Cardio and Biceps Triceps
Fri-Sat-off
Sun-Chest

You would be better off doing your cardio after your weight training. Take the advice of many here at ft regarding diet and put the majority of your energy into weight training. In that way you build muscle and increase your metabolism. That is really the most efficient way to ensure fat loss. Then watch the fat 'melt' away. You may want to try working out Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri. Do biceps on back day, triceps on chest day, do cardio Wednesday and Saturday, take Sunday completely off for rest and recuperation. Or something similar. Work abs any 2 non-consecutive days. This type of routine works for many people including me. Check out the exercise routines here at ft for more suggestions. Good Luck. Hope to hear from you soon.

Fes,

If your schedule dictates that you have to do your cardio and your weight training, then its best to do the weight training FIRST. Your body can use stored glycogen for energy during weight training if you do it first. However, if you use up all of your glycogen doing cardio, then you won't have the power for successful weight training.

On the other hand, if you use glycogen stores by doing weight training first, your body has the ability during moderate intensity cardio to use stored fat for energy, since the glycogen stores were depleted during weight training.

If you do get the opportunity to modify your schedule, your best weight loss bet is to training weights and cardio at different times of the day. Give your body that metabolism boost twice, instead of just once.
