hello my name is Wayne, and I am 5'6 173 lbs..most of my family are large people and thats something I donot want to be...my dad is truck driver of 30yrs now and he has the big overhang gut to show the miles he has logged sitting..recently on the phone my dad said to me that i will look just like him when i get his age....To be honest I got scared and I dont want that. Right now i have a small belly on me and when i look in the mirror it makes feel down about myself....ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE..every year i tell my self that, im active in the summer time but when winter comes so does the extra inches...I am new to fitness scene and im not sure on what types of food to eat and what not to eat...I would appreciate any help anyone has to offer.

Welcome aboard, Wayne. You have taken the first step in adopting a healthier lifestyle. As far as good foods to eat: fish, chicken, veggies, soy, peanut butter...pretty much foods that contain a fair amount of protein.
Bad foods will contain saturated fat. Depending on your goals, the list of foods to stay away from will differ. Fill out your profile and let us know your goals.

Hi Wayne I'm new to this too. I am 5'8" and 140lb. I used to have a very active/athletic life. Since college (and marriage) I have become very sedentary. I seem to do better with a structured work out system so I'm hoping that this web site can help. It seems pretty cool thus far.
IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE for me too!

Congratulations on your decision to take control of your body. That is the most difficult step for many. There are several things that you need to keep in mind and you can get help for all of them here at ft. 1) you want to lower your body fat and increase your lean muscle mass 2) you want to start taking solid steps to transform your diet (eliminate or replace the 'junk') 3) you want to begin a systematic exercise program that will build muscle. These steps combined will increase lean lean muscle, speed up your metabolism, and lower body fat. You will look better and feel better. Diet, exercise, patience. That's the ticket. Good Luck.
