hi i'm drew, i've been lifting very hard and heavy for the last month when i finally got a spotter to go with me to the gym everytime.

i never knew how valuable a spotter really is until i forced myself to fail everytime and utilize my friend's help. its those extra failures on my sets that have been giving me the gains i've always wanted.

at any rate, i've been a heavy pot smoker for about 7 years in my life. i finally cut it down to about 1 time week, but i made the decision to quit completely after trying to run for more than 5 minutes.

my question is, if i want to clear out my lungs (i.e. the reason for running) and get more lean muscle mass, can i run and still make great gains in the gym like i've been making this past month? i want to get healthier but still make great gains, and running for cardio is the best thing i've come up with.

this is my plan to gain alot of lean muscle mass - eat the same amount of carbs (very high amounts everyday) and substitute a major amount of fats with protein. therefore, although i am eating at least 200 g's of protein everyday right now, i will cut my fat to the basics (i.e. milkfat, pasta fat) and replace it with protein.

will i be able to make the same amount of gains with this new nutrition plan?

comments and advice is openly welcome

thanks so much for your time to whoever responds.

I found that if you want lean gains, cardio helps. Its not to say its required, but it does help a lot. The calories you eat up running may slow down your gains a bit.

I've done cardio with my lifting since I started training and my gains have been slow, very lean, but always progressive (I rarely platuea).

Cardio is an important part of training either way. What good are strong muscles if you have a weak heart and lungs?

--------------
- Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Its just about doing it, and doing it right.
- If your hungry all the time, your not eating enough. And anyways, being hungry sucks.
