I got this girl im trying to hook up with, shes 22 and im 18 so theres a nice long 4 years gap which is messing everything up. Ive know this girl for a whole year now and we are distance friends, meaning i see her from time to time but if we see each other we talk alot, then she'd leave and thats it. Shes with me in college and thats the only place i see her. I dont want to look like a fool by making a move and it turns out that she cant date me cause of my age and this would ruin everything cause i got all my classes with her which would the situation between us really ackward.
I got an xmas holiday coming up now and i wont see her for a month and a half. |

OOOh...I dated an older in college. We were pretty serious for the year. But she graduated and it had to end because she lived a few hundred miles away. I notice you live in the UK, in the US college is about hooking up and having fun while attempting get an education, so keep your options open, IF she doesn't want to get serious. LOL This is a tough one, but I understand your situation.-------------- If you joined the powers of TSMD and 7707Mutt, it would equal that of a freight train! |

My advice would be to ask her how she feels about your friendship...meaning, could you two be more than friends? This way, you don't damage anything and you'll know if there's anything there or not.
The worst thing you can do is make a move, get rejected, then lose the friendship altogether. Good luck! -------------- **_Robert_** Pain is temporary; glory is forever! |

I dont know about most women, but I dated lots of men younger than me. It was more what we had in common and how our chemistry was than age. My husband is 12 years younger than I am. When we first met I didnt know that because he looked and acted older. When I found out, it was all I could think about and I almost wrote him off for being younger. He convinced me to not think about our ages and give him a chance. He has been the love of my life and I cant imagine my life without him now. I say, go for it! Good luck.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

Hi h3k. Maybe you could hint very subtly around the fact that you two should be dating - that you two look kind of good together, that sort of thing (casual)...see how she reacts. If the reaction is not to your liking (meaning, she says No way/not a chance etc) you may be able to save face by agreeing with her and stating "Hey, really what was I thinking?? Laugh it off so neither feels uncomfortable afterwards. Just an idea...
The age difference will matter less and less the older you are. Although at 18 & 22 it may seem a much bigger difference than at 30 & 34. Good luck to you all the same |

H3k, at this time in your lives that short distance may seem like it's huge simply because of the social pressures and the way you think of yourselves. Since she's 22 she can go places you can't and do some things you can't.
But remember, true love has no boundaries. Even true like has no boundaries. Like Amazon said, bring it up subtly. Who knows, maybe she's been hoping you would. My wife is older than I am and it's worked well. But don't be afraid to ask. -------------- Pain is but a threshold to greater strength. |

Hey, 4 years is no big deal. I am 9 years older than my husband and we are very much in love. I met him when he was 18 and I was 27. Now he is 29 and I am 38. We are still very much in love. I say go for it!
