This might be long..forewarning but I really need help getting to the next level. I have been lifting regularly (see profile) for at least 3 years. I eat well, at least during the week, and I think I know what I am doing at the gym but am starting to get confused w/ how much cardio to do/not to do, how many calories to eat, how much should be protein etc.

Up until last week and for the past three months, I have been doing cardio for 45 - 60 minutes a day m - f and 1.5 hours on Saturday with lifting anywhere from 3 - 5 days depending on what I can get in. I go in the am and do 30 - 45 minutes of cardio depending on the time and then go at lunch to finish the cardio and do my lifting.

During the week I try to stay at 1500 calories w/ no more than 20% fat and I take in about 100 grams of protein. On the weekends, I still workout doing my hour of cardio but my eating turns to crap and I tend to drink alot of wine (3 - 4 glasses a night, fri sat and sun..yes a little embarrassed to say it but am married into an italian wine drinking family). I do eat pasta once a week at night, probably 2 servings worth and my fat content on the weekends goes up. I probably already know the answer but are the weekends totally sabotaging my workouts?

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

The wine doesn't help. If you are the cook, give soy noodles a try. Try substituting ground turkey for ground beef. in most dishes it tastes the same. My wife tricked me into it.

It sounds like a lot of cardio and if you do cardio before lifting, you are sabotaging your lifting. Weight training builds lean muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat. Lift more, lift heavier , Cardio a little less.

Make sense?

I do cardio ONLY in the am and in the pm lift first and then do cardio. I am the cook..soy noodles, not even sure where to find those. I do the veggie crumbles mixed w/ taco seasoning and put on a large salad for my lunch. During the week I generally eat two salads a day, one salad w/ the veggie crumbles (fake beef) and the other w/ Tuna. How much cardio would you suggest? I want to lose weight and lose bf.

I'm not the cardio buff here but the workout I use from the sight says to do 25 minutes post workout. I have been dooing 20 minutes of HIIT on the bike. It can be made very tough as you control the intensity. There are a bunch of threads here arguing the cardio thing. Do a fit buddy search.

We get soy noodles from revivalsoy.com. i think they are in most grocery and health food stores. Loaded with good carbs and protein if the lable is accurate.
