Hey guys, a friend of mine introduced me to this site at the local gym by showing me his workout plan he printed out. Anyways, I'm here to ask some questions as to what you guys think I should be able to do, and is what I'm at reasonable.

I currently weigh around 135 average, am 5' 8", and am 16 years old. I have been weightlifting at a serious level since around Christmas last year, but took a break this summer which I think hurt my progress. My current max's are as follows.

Bench: 190
Squat: 270
Clean: 180

Playing football, I find that weighing so little is starting to set in. I really want to work on bulking up before next season, and am hoping to get around 150. While I wouldn't mind getting stronger obviously, muscle gains mean more to me at this point. While I seem to be decent in my opinion strength wise, why am I not getting bigger? I've gained maybe 8 pounds over the year, while adding 100 pounds to my bench max.

I follow a 10-8-6-6 rep guide for my major compound exercises, while failing on my last set. For bench, my weights go 135-135-140-145. I'm sorry if my profile isn't setup yet, I just got a membership today. If it helps, I have taken protein on a non-consistent basis for about 6 months. I used to only do 20 grams a day by means of supplements, but now am doing 80 a day by supplements for 2 weeks. I also started creatine (5 grams a day) at the same time I started the 80 grams of protein a day. I take the creatine right after I work out, then about 20 minutes later get 40 grams of protein, then another 40 right after I goto sleep.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to make sure I gave you guys enough info. Just in case I side-tracked too much, I'm wondering if my max's are at reasonable weights or if they should be bigger... if I'm doing a decent job covering protein/creatine for weight gain... and if my program overall seems to be one for weight gain.

Thanks a bunch.

Well, one thing comes to mind: Are you eating enough (4-6 meals per day)? If not, you need to start there. You'll need to consume more calories in a day than you burn.

Up the protein intake to 1 gram per pound of body weight. Ex: you weigh 135, take 135 grams per day. Max's don't mean jack. Who's to say wether or not they are reasonable. Don't worry about that unless you want to be a competative powerlifter.

I want to bulk up, because at 135lbs.. I have to run twice as fast as someone that weighs 250 to match up their momentum. Therefore, as quick as I am.. at 135 I'm too easy to tackle. Whereas, it is easier to gain weight and keep a decent speed, than double your speed.

Also.. as for supplements. Should I take my creatine/protein the same way on off days as I do on workout days? Like the same amounts, and at the same times?

also if u work on ur speed........and u get twice as fast.......then the big guys can't catch up? i mean i may be wrong but they can't tackle you if they can't catch u ....and y would u be tackling a 240lb guy? ur not on the line are u >?

big andrew while football is like speed and agility its also about strength the strong you are the easier it is to make moves on guys like for a wide reciever to make moves right off the line strength is key....and same with blocking and everything else...look at Terrell Owens one of the reasons hes so good is casue of how powerful he is. Strenght gives you an extra egde when breaking tackles and everything else in football...its very important

That, and it is a lot easier to gain some weight than it is to actually double your speed. The best thing to have is a good equilibrium.
