As some of you may know, I am very much into full body and mind health, beyond bodybuilding, and thought this information may be of benefit to all. There seems to be a method for measuring the antioxidant or radical scavenging capacity of foods. It is called ORAC(oxygen radical absorbance capacity). Research suggests that eating plenty of high ORAC foods may help slow the aging process in both the body and brain. For instance prevent some loss of long term memory, maintain the ability of brain cells to respond to a chemical stimulus, protect blood vessels and capillaries, and maybe most important raise the antioxidant power of human blood 10 to 25 percent. Here is a good list of high ORAC foods, fruits and veggies.

Fruits
Prunes 5770
Raisins 2830
Blueberries 2400
Blackberries 2036
Strawberries 1540
Rasberries 1220
Plums 949
Oranges 750
Red grapes 739
Cherries 670

Vegetables
Kale 1770
Spinach 1260
Brussel sprouts 980
Alfafa sprouts 930
Broccoli florets 890
Beets 840
Red bell peppers 710
Onions 450
Corn 400
Eggplant 390

These are all the ORAC for 3.5 ounces of each.

Seems based on evidence so far, daily intake should be a minimum of 3000-5000 ORAC units to have a significant effect on plasma and tissue antioxidant capacity.

It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health.
