Hello,
I heard/read somewhere that working your abs everyday is ok but it is better to work them every other day? You get results faster that way. Is this true?? (I know about not being able to spot reduse and all that and that no matter how much you work your abs you can't take the fat away without cardio, diet, etc...) I just wanted to know which way brings better/faster results or if it even matters.
Thank you! :)

Abs are a muscle...they grow and recouperate like every other muscle in your body...granted, calves abs and legs require harder and intenser workouts to get growth and development do to their genetic makeup...but that just means they also need some good healin time...at least 48 hours between a body part that has been worked...any body part. hope some of this helps.

try putting them into seperate catagories, like one day work on ur upper abbs( regualr crunches, rope crunches, machine etc) the few days after that do lower abbs and obliques( twisters, leg lift, leg raises, side crunches etc)
then a few days after that do a day hwere u do one excercise for each(just to work them not much weight)
i mean even on lower abb days u stil use the uppers and vice versa, but u stil isolate those more and give the upper or lowers rest...

It may not be as effective as you may think to separate your ab training, like doing upper one day, lower another, and obliques on yet another. Though this is better than doing the ab plate every day, the notion that you can train upper abs by doing one exercise and lower with another really isn't true. The 6 muscles in the front are called the retus abdominals, and both types of movements actually use this. All the fibers actually work as a whole. You may be able to put more emphasis on certain parts by certain exercises, but complete isolation is virtually impossible. I am in favor of doing them all together, then giving complete rest. Sometimes you have to split things up, due to getting your workout times in order, as I am doing now, but working to get them all to one point, twice per week. Just some insight into abs. One other note, abs are basically split in muscle fibers. So slow controlled reps holding each crunch with weight, work well, and some high quick reps will cover the ab region well.

bigandrew, you have to work within the timeframe you have, what you are doing will work. I was simply emphasizing that you can't really "isolate" the upper and lower abs. What you are doing will work well, one note, change it up each time, don't do the same exercise all the time each time. Try to hit from as many ways and angles as you can, keep them guessing. Use slow controlled reps, hold at the peak contraction on your weighted reps, and high unweighted reps both for your ab plate. This will hit most fibers, and give that entrenched look we all want in our six pack.
