how do you do snatches and powercleans? and i was just wondering, i leg press 4 sets of 8 reps of 320lbs at the gym so its not like my legs are that weak, but i cant do a squat of over 50 pounds without it killing my shoulders, so how do u position the bar to do a squat?

heh, i used to have that same problem with squats... the key, as i've found out, is to place the bar somewhat behind you... heh, not really on your back, but just behind the tip of your spine o_O i have this plastic thing that you place on the bar and it fits on your shoulders... that's what you stick on your back... heh, i'm not too sure if my explanation was that clear, so post back if you don't get it...

I get what you said, and thanks for the reply. I was just wondering, did u make the plastic thing urself or did u buy it, and if so, where did u buy it from?
Thanks in advance |

i highly not advise u to not use a plastic thing, it makes u lazy and it doesn't work very well, i can squat well into the 500s and i use no towel, no pad or no plastic "thingy" if u can't squate very much but can leg press alot i am guessing ur 1. not used to doing it and 2. ur sore isn't stong enough to help support u .....heres a few pointers
1. turn around and look in the mirror and shrug ur shoulder up as high as possible, if u do this u see theres alot of "meat" there thats where the bar is placed on the meat( yes it does hurt) but no one ever said working out was gonna be easy lol but i promise u it will get easier and u won't hurt after u get used to it. Next i suggest u do lots of abbs and lower back excercises to strenthing the "core" of ur body and do some shrugs to get more " meat" to pad ur spine, those pads and things are designed for people liek b ball players and women who don't wanna shrug there shoulders and if they do they still don't have anything to pad lol next i suggest u get the bar, or even a smith machine and do reps just the bar, get ur body used to the range of motion, and let ur body adapt to that, u need to require whats called " muscle memory" after a while u won't need to worry about going parallel or whatever ur body will just atomically do it BUT GO PARALLEL! DON'T DO SISSY SQUATS! nothing ticks me off more than seeing a guy " "squat" 400lbs and his butt barally goes below the safty rack, thi sis not just cause i tell u its cause u need to go full range of motion to use the most muscle fibers ,which will damage more, which get repaired and get them bigger as for cleans and power cleans there are web sight u can go too, but its really easier to have somone show u, if u go to a guym and see people doing them watch them, any oen that has every ask me i have always tried my best to help them out, but if they come off to u as a prick or somthing just say thanks anyways and leave them alone cause soem people are pricks unfortunally -------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! |

well, i find that no matter how hard i try doing squats without the plastic thing, i always hurt myself badly... and since i do them just fine with the plastic thing, i don't see why i should not use them... after all, they're there to help you, wheather you do shrugs or not =P
anyhoo, 5600000.... no, i don't make them... i did a little research and i found out that they're called mata rays... heh, i found this page at bodybuilding.com where you can buy one, and they even have a nice little FAQ there about the peripheral that you might want to check out... here it is: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/adfit/manta.html i don't know, i just can't do squats without them, so if they work for you, i don't see why you should kill your shoulders by not using them... |

however u miss out on a good workout as well, u get a good trap work out as well, which is part of the " core" strength for doing squats,... by the way i don't kill my shoulders, i'm sure the 1st few times u did bench press ur shoulders and chest was sore, or any other muscle group for that matter, once u get ur strength up and get used to it ur fine, i fit hurts ur back then maybe ur doing somthing wrong cause it never hurts my back at all.....of coarse i was trained by some one hard core who wouldn't let us use pads, towels or anything like that but u do what u want in my opinion its like doing bench presses in a smith machine, u get a good chest work out which is fine, but u don't get the " contol' muscles worked very well........but if u have a physical element which u have to have somthing on ur back use it other wise i say suck it up..that was the way i was taught and i have a nice thick trap back area and a very good squat to show for it-------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! |
