I like to do about 40 minutes or so on the cross trainer each time I go to the gym Is this good enough for my cardio training?

Welcome to freetrainers jazztuck.
The crosstrainer is a great machine for you cardio, as it allows you to burn more energy (calories) per session, beating the treadmill and stat bike.

Jessie, that should pretty good 3 to 4x per week, depending on your goal. Remember to vary your intensity to keep your body guessing.

Good luck and welcome here as well...

Like Robert said - keep your body guessing. Maybe the cross trainer 2 times a week and something different the third? Try to change stuff up - it shouldn't feel easy and like something you're just "doing" for your 40 minutes - make sure it FEELS like a workout!
