Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I have read some heated debates about the Atkins diet both on this board and everywhere else in the Media! I added the Only people with personal experience to the title because I really want to discuss this with people who have tried Atkins with working out and I don't want to start another debate about it's merits by people who haven't tried it themselves.

I have been doing Atkins off and on for about 9 months without exercising. I have now purchased a Weider Crossbow machine and have started to work out using the program provided by this site.

I'd like to know if anyone else has done the program for weightloss & toning from this site and was on Atkins. For how long with what results? Can you offer any advice?

I look forward to a great new topic!

Yes I have and am currently following it. In addition the program I follow on this site is weight loss and toning.

Results excellent. Have lost 60 pounds over ten months.
Athletically progressed from walking a mile in 20 minutes to running 6 in 45.

Heart rate is 48 when resting. HDL & LDL counts are normal if not better than the average ATHLETE. Blood pressure is that of a fit Athlete something like 117/70.

That is great - congratulations!! How long did you stay on induction?

What is an example of what you each daily? Last year I was sticking to the diet and couldn't get past a loss of 20lbs. Of course, I wasn't exercising then either. I'm wondering if I need to modify the "normal" Atkins diet at all because I am now working out 3 days a week.

Thanks for sharing! I'm really trying to do it right this time :-)

Nothing like the voice of experience mfowlkes. Sounds like Warren is doing exactly what you want to do and succeeding hands down.

I just want to mention 2 things.1 Many people have jumped into the Adkins fray from the stand point that they never got beyond the induction part much less read the whole book. 2 My Adkins book reccommends adding carbs for the hard training athlete. The amount of carbs varies by the person and the amount of training.

I never really exited from induction overnight, i phased it out moving nto the OWLS gradually and suppose that the graduation from Induction was initiated as I got down to 50 lbs.
Daily food: breakfast = 3 x Eggs & 3 x rashers of bacon. 2 x cups of coffee, no sugar and milk, instead cream.
Lunch: Salad with cheese, grated sliced, diced or however. Chicken strips ceasar style anda dressing low in carbs.
Snack: Chunk of cheese and a rolled slice of ham.
Dinner: A piece of steak, brocolli or spinach with a small salad. Sugar free jello. or similar veggies with grilled or roast chicken or Fish, I caught fresh striped bass during the season and ate that at least once a week. If I were skunked would have Salmon.

Thats about it as I never did get to fancy, also broke on occassion when doing the social business thing and had a glass of wine/beer and carb loaded hors d ouvres.

Otherwise drank neat vodka socially, but really have tried to stay away from booze, it doesn't help the excersize drill.

That's great! I've been on it for 6 days now and haven't lost anything. My typical meals are:
Breakfast - Sausage
Lunch - either 2 chicken breasts with cheese or a bacon cheeseburger
Dinner - same as lunch but 2 or 3 burgers
Snack - Cheese and / or Bryers Low Carb Ice Cream.

I haven't given up on Caffeine though I did the first time I did Induction. My thoughts on why I haven't lost are: Maybe I'm drinking too much Diet Pepsi and maybe I should wait on the low carb ice cream or atkins snacks. What do you think???

I also just looked at my exercies for tonight and noticed some of them are repeated - is this an error or should I do them all? Here is what's listed:
4 x Machine Presses
4 x One Arm Side Cable Laterals
4 x Two Hand Cable Curls
4 x Two Hand Cable Curls (again)
4 x Triceps Cable Pushdowns
4 x Dips Behind the Back
3 x Crunches
3 x Seated Leg Tucks

Mfowkes,
The suasage could be hiding carbs...check the contents. Not sure about the ice cream, but do agree that if you're in induction maybe give it a miss. I use the sugar free jello as a "sweets" substitute.
Diet Pepsi is OK, has no sugars in it. I would however reccomend that you subsist on water instead and lots of it.
Coffee is not reccomended, however i like you couldn't give it up. I take it with artificial sweetner and cream rather than sugar and milk.
Other than that it looks like you are eating to spec. You should try and get a cup of salad in with your lunch and a cup of brocli/spinch at dinner.

Check your weight at the same time each day, best for me was first thing in the morning. You might find that if you are checking at different times that the metre fluctuates.

Again, go for it and good luck.

Induction is the strictest part of the diet and your meals should only consist of regular foods. Lose the low carb Atkins snacks. Caffeine and citric acid can affect your progress. Either or both of these things might be preventing you from losing. Though eliminating caffeine cold turkey will give you headaches, you can try cutting back to see what happens.
I would also up the number of meals to at least 6. If your meals are exactly as listed, you are missing vegetables. And above all, make sure you take a multi vitamin.

When you are in atkins, you should have NO coffee, NO Caffeine, caffeine was proven to release insulin which promotes weight gain. Also - DONT eat ice cream at all, if your serious about losing weight, you'll know its crap like ice cream that got you where you are in the first place. Its time to take a stand and realize sometimes you have to go extreme to lose and get the goals that you want.
