Thought this might interest a few of you....
In two surveys, researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found the top three comfort foods for Americans overall are potato chips, ice cream, and cookies. But the preferences, the researchers determined, differ dramatically between men and women. Men tend to prefer meal-related comfort foods, such as pizza, pasta, and steak. Women usually go for snack-related foods, such as candy and chocolate. New York-based medical nutritionist and behavioral therapist Susan Cukiernik, RD, says that in addition to gender preferences, emotions also often drive our food choices. If we are angry or frustrated, we tend to desire crunchy, salty foods. If we are sad or feeling drained, we are more likely to crave smooth, creamy, and sweet foods. She recommends that we obey our cravings, as long as the foods we choose have a high nutritional value. For a man wanting a hot meal, Cukiernik suggests hearty, vitamin-rich vegetable soup. And for women feeling a little steamed who want to dip into the snack bag? Cukiernik suggests sprinkling fresh cauliflower with sea salt, a little olive oil, and garlic powder.

Interesting survey...especially when it comes to people's moods and emotions. Although, I've known others to crave more of the sweets during frustration rather than the crunchy, salty foods. Was geography a consideration in the surveys?

If you think about it, the survey makes since. Men generally eat more thatn women. And women do tend to snack more often than men. At least, this is the case where I come from. If you go to a women's party, we will have more fnger type foods. Men love to have pizza, hotwings, barbecue on the grill. Don't get me wrong, I love all these things too.
-------------- It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health.
