OK, I am oboviously learning here. I am following the FT workout routine, and I set up my nutrition plan. The plan tells me I need to be intaking around 3500 calories per day. This sounds excessive - more that I did before wathing what I eat. I am also trying to only eat what is on the BFL approved list, but have not explored the whole "shake" thing yet. I am wondering if I really need to intake the 3500 cal, and what difference will I see with the protein shakes if I start using them?

Many people are blown away by the calorie requirements. I was. The nutritional recommendations are based on what your desired goals are. Also, it assumes that you will be actively involved in rigorous exercise (weights and cardio). Another thing to consider as well, we're not talking twinkies, cheeseburgers, and pizza here (I could easily meet my calorie requirements that way). It is alot harder to get this amount of calories while sticking to good, nutritious, clean foods. If your still not comfortable with the numbers, try gradually increasing your intake over a period of several weeks and evaluate your progress as you go.

Don't forget that 3500 is the maximum daily requirement. Try not to exceed that. What some people do is instead of counting calories, just meet your protien/carb/fat intake instead. You should get pretty close the calories needed.

Thanks guys. Are Protein shakes a good way to go? Or is it better to try and get the right amount of protein from regular foods?

I use protein shakes to help me reach my daily intake, but you can do it through natural foods as well. I find they are nice because they only take a minute to make.
