Thats a big question, it all depends if you are talking about a specifac vitamin, or a multiple vitamin.-------------- "A will finds a way" Ivan Montreal Canada |

The big 3 in my opinion are Vit. C, B-Complex, and Vit. E. These are vitamins/antioxidants I have lived by even before bodybuilding, just for general overall good health. I am never without them. Been taking them for over 30 yrs., long before it became "fashionable". Noone thinks I am anywhere near my age.-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

I, too, have been a long time vitamin user. I suppose I can credit my mother for that. However, I often wonder if I am taking the best for the buck, etc. I always shoot for the 'big 3' plus I supplement with Calcium as well. I also can't figure out why there is such a debate regarding the use of vitamins.

I was thinking about an antioxidant vitamin and a B-vitamin. What do you think. -------------- It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health. formerfatguy.com Not sure of author |

I forget too. Before AI start taking extra iron, I want to get my blood drawn. Too much iron can be toxic. -------------- It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health. formerfatguy.com Not sure of author |

Iron is more toxic for men then women. But like bb1 said vitamin c, and B complex, and make sure e is not man made.

Yes, calcium also is very important. A good dosage is 1000 milligrams of calcium carbonate or citrate ( the highest quality forms ) for every 100 pounds of body weight per day. Calcium is one mineral most of us don't get enough of.
For the best absorption use a calcium supplement that contains both vitamin d and magnesium as they help increase absorption and uptake. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

I just read a bokk called nutrion and disease. It did talk about how important it is to take calcium, vitamin d, and magnesioum.
I believe the antioxidant vitamin that I was considering did have vitamin e. If I have 1 protein shake mixed with 16 oz of soy milk and enough calcium for the day. -------------- It's not what we eat or drink occasionally, but what we consume on a daily basis that determines our ongoing level o health. formerfatguy.com Not sure of author |

actually calcium carbonate is a very poor source of calcium(the cheapest)and is linked to kidney stones(but go research, seems to be conflcting data on this)I think GOOD multi with beta carotene(not vitamin a)and natural vitamin e and iron free(for men)is best, i never could understand why people dont take extra c and e(i havent had a cold in 4 years)and when i feel one coming on, i take huge amounts of e and c and it dissapears. You can take all the popular protein powders and all that B.S. but the only thing takes away soreness(in fact in prevents it)is natural e, c and beta carotene

This is a fact what you state. In my post I put the () after citrate. Here are the facts.
The amount of calcium absorbed from calcium citrate supplements is consistently higher than the amount absorbed from calcium carbonate supplements. This difference is important because women who take calcium supplements that are poorly absorbed are not as well protected against calcium-related bone loss and possible osteoporosis. The researchers pooled data from 15 previously published studies in which men and women took either calcium citrate or calcium carbonate supplements. Calcium citrate is better absorbed than calcium carbonate by about 25%, whether it is taken on an empty stomach or given with meals. American Journal of Therapeutics November 1999;6:303-311,313-321. Journal of Clinical Pharmacology December 1999;39:1-4. I listed carbonate as just another source, easily attainable. ============ Quoting from dakota68: actually calcium carbonate is a very poor source of calcium(the cheapest)and is linked to kidney stones(but go research, seems to be conflcting data on this)============= -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |
