Hi there I have just started week 2 of ft , prior to starting the ft trainers program I have completed my YMCA's modified version of bfl and then went on to a three day program with 3- 4 exercises 15 r per set , so all in all I have been weight training for about a year.I enjoy it and have made some progress.
Yesterday my program called for chins , I never done these before but with the help with a young lad in the gym to spot me I managed to do a few but not getting quite all the up , I did what I felt I could and then substituted the chins with another back exercise ...question will it take me a long time to do chins ? can I attempt to do what I can and then finish my back with another exercise each day that I have back to do ? Is there anything else that I can do to improve my upper body strength so I can pull myself up? btw i am f 42 150 lbs.
I also did reverse barbell curls for the first time for both biceps and forearms ..first I used an easy curl barbell but I found this awkward so I then used a straight bar and it felt better however I couldn't add weight to it as I felt as if I didn't have a good grip on the bar ..over hand grip with thumbs over the top...for db curls i generally use 15- 20 lbs ..so thought it odd that I couldn't add weight for the bb reverse curl ..
any feedback would be appreciated ..

In time you will be able to pull yourself up. It will take some time for you to develop upper body strength.
As far as reverse bb curls, you are hitting your forearms and biceps from a different angle, so you will not be able to go heavy on these.
Good luck!

angelsnow, chins kick most peoples butts. I started a chin campaign about 3 months ago. Chins start with 1. I have sweated, grunted and strained my way up to sets of 9,7,6,5. i seem to be able to add about 1 every 2 or 3 weeks. Keep trying and don't get discouraged. They are hard to do.

One other tip, your grip for chins will affect how many you can do...the same principle as regular curls vs. reverse curls.

Robert & CHarlie Thank you both for your replies !!
I guess I will have many more questions over time , some of the exercises in the ft program are new to me and they/I feel awkward starting out but despite the awkwardness I want to do my best and do them to the best of my ability which I know will improve over time with experience and preserverance.
