...and some advice. I have finally gained some much needed weight. 165 from 154. I am making excellent progress (I think} arms, shoulders, chest all looking pretty good. Back and legs still need work (going slow due to previous back injury) In other words, I think I am on track. However, despite dropping body fat from 15% to 13%, I have added an inch or so to the waist area at the navel (from 33 to 34-35). My pants are starting to get tight. Does this seem reasonable? I just can't reconcile the waist increase with the lower body fat %. BTW I plan to start cutting back in about 10 weeks unless this keeps happening. If so, I am going to start NOW.

Ae you doing heavy abdominal work?
You can build up muscle in your abdominal area, making it thicker.
If that isn't the case.. are you 'eliminating' veery day? You could be bloated from added fiber in your diet, or from food intolerances.

When you work your abs make sure you are tightening up your waistline, like you are tucking in your stomach.

I guess I don't know what else could be causing it. Your waistline is really on your intestines, which could be puffy.
What do you think?

Hey asimmer, how did the surgery go? I hope it went well and glad to see you're up. As for my problem, I really don't know. My gut looks a little bigger, however when I measure my bodyfat it reads 2mm smaller than my previous reading (from 10mm to 8mm). My wife swears she can't tell but I think so. I may just be nitpicking but crap I worked hard to lose it. I've been eating good. I do weighted cable crunches (3 sets of 15 @ 90lbs, obliques the same) 2 x per week. I just wondered if it was kind of normal to have such fluctuations. Like I said I really don't want to cut back on my diet just yet. I have been bloated as a matter of fact. But that problem has seemed to have gotten somewhat better. Thanks for your input. I'll measure again next week. Might increase cardio.

agamble,

I'm new to some fo this stuff too, I've always been a hardgainer with a rash of injuries because of it.

I'd like to just put on lean muscle, but I don't know if it's possible. The only people I see out there who say it is are usually trying to sell something. From I what I gather, if we want to put on weight it's gonna be both muscle and fat, and then we have to switch to a diet that will allow us to lose the fat and go lean. I know that it's a tough thing to do, it's so bloody hard to gain anything in the first place. But I also know what you mean because the only place I have any body fat is right around the middle.

I am still in the gaining phase, so I will be really interested to see how you do with this. Good luck.

Yeah, the whole concept blew me away at first. I had been told for years to diet, lose weight, etc. I began working out and dieting and lost the weight. Hell I was really feeling good. Then everybody said I was too skinny, that I needed to gain weight. Now to gain mass I need to eat alot and possibly gain some fat back. Scares me to death. I have gained though. I just want to watch the bodyfat. Thanks and good luck to you as well.
