Splenda is an altered form of sugar. I believe the only chemical diffence has to do with chlorination. I dunno I got a d in chemistry.

Here is a good website http://www.holisticmed.com/sweet/
to learn about Splenda. There is some interesting reading on artificial sweetners. See also the info on Stevia which seems to be the preferred herbal way to sweeten food without calories. But like all things that threaten to interfere with other highly profitable things there is interference by those who stand to lose out!

Splenda is a great replacement for aspertame as is found in most diet soda. What they don't tell you is that aspertame also known by it's brandname, Equal, is a neurotoxin that got rushed onto the market in the early 80's as a replacement for sacchrine, which at the time was said to cause cancer, but later studies have disproven.

I use Splenda and I really like it; it tastes a lot like sugar. It is expensive but I usually use only a half a packet in oatmeal or a smoothie so it does last a while.

I've used Stevia too but it has a strange taste to me; it works okay in a drink or something in very small quantities but too much and it gets sort of a... dirty taste. Yuk.
