Just wondering what HIIT is? The search button keeps generating error, looks like the form page is missing.

If I am correct it High Intesity Interval Training...
Basically, you do cardio and at certain intervals you work harder for about a minute to two minutes to get the heart rate up. So, you work at (I think) 60 to 70% of your max heart rate for a bit, then go hard to get the heart rate up to 80% or so for a minute or two, then slow down to get the heart rate back down. Is my description correct? -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." Aristotle |

Yep, I think Tim has got it. HIIT sucks, but it is a great manipulator. It keeps the body from getting use to the same ole thing.
Of course I have a small boy that came crying to me once; Dad dad, cry cry cry, "what's wrong". Cry cry, I got Hi-it... Anyway, HIIT can make ya cry... |

thats right guys walk for a bit then sprint then walk then sprint. and so on -------------- I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain |

HIIT will in the long run burn more calories than any standard cardio due to the rise in baseline metabolism you get from it. It will in other words do a much better job in a shorter period of time of raising your metabolism for the day, thus burning more calories throughout the day rather than just while you are doing cardio. It's anerobic component plays a big part in this.
Vary up your cardio sessions, use both types, will help to keep your body from adapting. HIIT is the best way to burn more bodyfat. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

Tim-you a crazy man!!!
HIIT: Since BB1 introduced it to me; I do it, but I still hate it! Heart a pounded, things a burning that you didn't think could, sweat a dripping where you didn't think it could drip, and walking afterwards is a challenge in itself. Thanks BB1; I think! |

hahahaha... I guess I should define "like." I like it better than regular cardio... I'm not a big fan of cardio, but it is a necessary evil... haha... -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." Well, I am glad some of you enjoy it! I for one am not a cardio buff, I hate it, but as TimDay says, it is a necessary evil. I can get outside on my bike and ride for miles and miles, but 5 minutes in the gym on a cardio apparatus is like 5 hrs.!
Fryer, glad you hate it as much as I do!! LOL...I am going in in a few minutes to do a session of HIIT! Oh well, got to do it. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

I like HIIT so far. I do it for about 22 mins. and feel great afterward. It's hard but I just take it 1 minute at a time. =)
What is the best amount of time to do cardio for fat burning but not taking away any muscle that you all have found? Thanx in advance. -Tom |

Also just wanted to add that I have just started about 2 weeks ago and have enjoyed cardio more than weights. Wonder why that is...lol

I love HIIT. I Like going to the track and running a straight a ways and then walking the curve. It was funner and challengeing. :dumbbell:

I have heard that in order to burn fat and get a good cardio work out you must excersize for at least 30 minutes, is it different with HIIT because people recommend working out for only 20 minutes
