HEy berze,
One of my clients has both osteo and rheumatiod arthritis.
What we have found is that being consistent with cardio makes a huge difference in how arthur affects her, we go heavy on days that there is not a lot of pain, and focus one different areas when her knee or shoulder is flaring up.
Simply warming up sufficiently with movements that are similar to the exercise we are going to do makes a big difference, also.
Done correctly, heavy leg press shouldn't make your knees worse. Make sure to balance them with good standing exercises like squats(in god form) and deadlifts.
Good luck!
