Ok I am new to the weight lifting and trying to get in shape thing and I want to know if what I am doing is right becuase no one around here seems to know so here is my daily routine and I will include the eating habits and then I am up for any advice on what I need to do if I am not doing them.............here goes.
Breakfast..1 Cup of coffee creamer and sweet n low
1 cup of oatmeal with a piece of fruit (if I am still hungry)
Lunch...Sandwich on wheat bread (lately) with a salad or a piece or grilled pork or chicken with a baked potato light butter.
Snake.....a piece of cheese or something that wont leave me hungry at the gym and really depends on what I had for lunch.
Dinner....a piece of of grilled pork or chicken and a vegatable or salad.
I am trying to reduce the carbs and not eat them after 6pm.
I print my work outs and take them to the gym and this is the routine I follow.
I run for 30-45 mins which is normally between 2-3 miles (I run slow but I am dedicated) then I get on the stationary bike and bike (manual level 6 or 7) until I have been active for 60 mins.
I then start my weight training workout and do all the exercises on the page religously sometimes it can take me anywhere from 30 mins to an hour to complete....I am a beginner so I use weight but nothing really heavy.
At home if I am hungry after the workout I will eat a can of tuna (Plain)or have a protein shake and nothing else until the next morning.
I do this 5 days a week or more depending on my schedule. I have alot of free time so it keeps me sane to spend time in the gym (no I am not in prison. Can someone please let me know if my eating is ok or if I need to change something. I drink lots of water during my workouts and am working on trying to drink more during my daily routine because it is normally nothing but Diet coke.
I can tell the my arms and shoulders are getting firmer but do I need more aerobic activity to burn the fat becuase I am not really active at work. Please help me I am trying here and I am tired of those people saying well you got to cut out your carbs.........my mind set is I work out so I am allowed some right? I know that you need protein and some carbs with exercise for a healthy diet but is this ok........any advice is appreciated.......PS can anyone give me a good abdominal workout. Thank you!!!

hey lynnoakdale,
Your profile isn't filled out, so i don't have much info to go on. Are you male/female?
What is your goal weight? Are you trying to get bigger? Leaner? Fitter?
You do plenty of cardio, try switching to a 10 minute cardio warmup, 30 minutes of lifting and 20-30 minutes of interval type cardio afterwards. Then go home and have a mixture of carbs and protein to restorte the nutrients in your muscles.
Your diet isn't terrible, but you could get a little more protein and more complex carbs. Knowing your goal weight and physical goals would help to give more specific dietary advice.

Go for more protein for sure. Add egg whites into your diet, perhaps for breakfast (3-4).
