I have learned that it is important only to train the same muscle group once or twice a week.
But if i bench press one day i use my biceps as well as my shoulders so does that mean that i cannot do regular weightlifting until the next week when i bench press again?

When you bench press, you mainly work your chest and triceps. So, if you bench today, you can work on your bis, back or shoulders tomorrow. You are probably thinking they are all connected.
Are you only doing bench presses?

rpacheco is right, but if you are just beginning, and not doing a split yet, a full body workout 3 days per week is fine to get you in shape. The reason I put this in there is I see this is but your 6th post, so from that I am assuming you are new. Try not to get too far ahead of yourself. You don't give a profile, so we really don't know your experience level. Please fill in your profile so we can help you more accurately.
