Hi everybody, I really didn't know wheter to post this here or in the injury forum, but I've had some problems with my knees and somebody recommended me to buy glucosamine... now I bought the tablets but just wanted to make sure if there would be a certain time to take them (pre workout, post workout, etc).

Thanks!

Usually, they're taken throughout the day. What is the dosage and mg of your brand?

I'll have to check that rv8ball, I got them at GNC here in Mexico, the tablets also include Chondroitin, I don't know if that helps.

My Dr recommended one a day but I have found Dr's knowlege in vitamins and nutrition woefully lacking.

An interesting side note on Dr's. Mine told me creatine was a good supplement for a 50 year old hypertensive male .

I had a doctor several years ago put me on the Protein Power diet. I did it for awhile and got off of it. He told me to follow it or find another doctor. Guess what? I need a 300 lb., cigar smoking, beer drinking doctor with some common sense. Those are getting near impossible to find! I've got one that will do for now. Don't know squat about working out, supplements, etc. Is that stuff you're talking about good for joints?

Thats the stuff. I've been on it a month....not enough time to judge.

rev8ball, the tablet has 500 mg of Glucosamine and 400mg of Chondroitin, and the dosage indicated says "take 1 to 3 tablets daily"

I guess that dosage doesn't help a lot

Helps just fine. If you're an average size or bigger male, 1500 mg of Glucosamine per day is pretty much the standard. Try 1 tab 3x/day with a meal. So, if you're eating 6 meals/day, take one with meals 1, 3, and 5. It takes usually 4-6 weeks before you start noticing results.

I told my old trainer about this because he was hurting from football injuries. He swears by it now and has told many many others about it.

Is there any particular kind, mixture, dosage, etc. to look for? I'm having joint problems. Age I guess. I get alot of numbness in my arms and hands as well. Back when I worked in a machine shop doing heavy lifting I had carpel tunnel syndrome real bad. It's kind of similar to that. Do you think this stuff might help me?

Geeze agamble, you are old like me, get the powerful stuff.

I think rev covered this above.

So I need just the plain old glucosamine and take 1500 mg. a day? Do you ever get any numbness in your arms/hands etc. ?

Only in my right where I had rotator cuff surgery. My right arm is totally squirrely with tingles, numbness, mild pain all the way to my thumb.

Beverly Nutrition makes the best product IMO called Joint Care. I have tried many products but now I am back to the Joint Care for good. Best stuff going for those who need joint care.

Glucosamine Chondriotin (sp?) is the preferred mix from what I've read. I've been off of it for about a month simply because of funds and forgetfulness (don't recommend Ginko, not funny) and I've slipped back into more painful days with regard to my knee and lower back.
