Holy cow...! I couldn't do them all... after a while I just wanted to stay down! Holy! Good exercise though, but not for sissies! -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." Aristotle |

This was the first time I ever did them... that might be part of the reason...
The first set was 16, then 9, 8, and 8. I can feel it in my legs today, but they'll be worse later... wow... ============ Quoting from ioioio: why how many did you do??? my legs never get sore!!! ============= -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." Here's the description from the FT Exercise Resources/Muscle Targeting... there is also a picture there showing the exercise...
Movement Execution: 1. This movement is performed holding on to a stable object at your head level. 2. Stand with your feet close together, knees slightly bent. Grab on to something stable for support. 3. Now, raise to your toes. Now lower yourself to the ground allowing your knees to go further and your torso leaning back. Keep on your toes and feel the stretch in the front thighs. When you reach the point where you heels are touching your buttocks, pause. 4. Slowly, come back up to the starting position pushing once again only with your toes, try to use your support with your hand only for balance and not to lift yourself up. Contract your thighs fully at the top and repeat the movement. Helpfull Hint: This is a great movement for isolating the lower part of your quadriceps. This is an exercise for experienced people. It will aslo give you overall shape and strength gains. It is very important to keep a few things in mind. Stay on your toes and lean back to really get that stretch when you are at the bottom of the movement. Good Luck ============ Quoting from bigandrew: I have done these before after 5 sets of squats and 4 sets heavy leg press..........and my legs don't feel them..............how exactly you do them, I think i'm doing them wrong or somthing? ============= -------------- Tim "I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self." I did all my sets, but I almost threw up. Sissy squats is not an accurate name for this excersize.
After I did them I went upstairs and that went ok. But then I had to go back down the stairs and I didn't think I was going to be able to do it. My legs were sore for at least two days after I did them. I really dread the next time they come up in my program. -------------- Happy trails, Mike Young - Still on the pain train |

I have to agree with bigandrew. I read the directions several times & I'm pretty sure I'm following them, but this exercise doesn't seem that challenging.

Sissys are tough, a great thing is a superset of leg extensions and sissys. 12 extensions, 15 sissy's. Make sure you lean back, and come up on your toes. For added resistance, you can use the smith machine or hold a plate. Another great superset with them is front squats and sissy's. Check out this link for a small video of how to do them....http://exrx.net/WeightExercises/Quadriceps/WTSissySquat.html-------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... |

bb1fit, what do you mean by superset? I've seen the term used several times, but I don't know what it means.

nto to take bb1's question but a super set is 2 or more excerices of the same body part or a different body part one after the other.........example:
doing flys in between a set of bench press triceps in between biceps squats then doing leg extenions then going back to squats these are very good in hitting deep down muscle fibers, therory is more muscle fibers you hurt or engage in a lift, more have to be repaired, which make you stronger. VEry good for getting past sticking points in mahor lifts, and very good to use if your trying to get "cut". they help keep your heart rate up -------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! my old chest work out was
chest bench press/ cable cross overs incline bench press/ push ups or hammer bench press( in machine) incline flys/ dips or dumbell bench press my new chest work out bench press/ t bar rows( 5 sets) incline dumbell bench press/ close grip pull downs(4) incline flys/ reverse flys delcine dumbell bench/one arm dumbell rows legs( don't do this if your a beginner) squats/ hack squats front squats/ leg extenions leg curls/ still leged dead lifts shoulders up right rows/cleans side laterals/ military arms barbell curls/ hercules's/ or skull cruchers pretcher curls/ tricep extenions reverse curls/ reverse tricep extenions any other body parts that you would like let me know, anything can be supper setted, usualy its a big muscle paired with a smaller muscle that your trying to fatigue so it has to work harder, more muscle fibers you recruit bigger it has to get to coup with the stress. -------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! That's kinda what I thought, but sometimes I get it the next day... why would that be? Not stretching enough?

I had to do them again today. It was a brutal, thus great, leg workout. My legs are like rubber right now. Good thing we live in a "ranch" house.-------------- Happy trails, Mike Young Said the Buddist monk to the hot dog vendor, "Make me one with everything." |

lol, when I was trying to get back to fitness 2 months ago, I looked on leg exercises and avoided sissy squats. I didnt even check how you do it, just the name put me off thinking it would be too easy (you know kinda like the girlie pushups on your knees). I did my leg workout on wednesday, and thursday I had to drag myself up the stairs with my arms

How do you add weight with these? Hold a dumbell or plate to your chest? Perhaps that would make it seem more challenging?

In executing sissy squats, do I have to strap weights for each set to increase difficulty?

No. Try super-setting them with leg extensions. That makes them fun and entertaining. For people watching you that is.-------------- Hungry and mean! |
