don't train them more than 3 times a week, I normaly do one excercise 4 times a week 5 sets of 10 or 12. But if you a beginer might wanan do them 2 times a week, they need rest like any other muscle group. You can change foot posistions to work on different "areas" of calves.-------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! LEAVE YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR!! |

Sitting calf raises, standing calf raises, leg press with just the toes at the bottom of the plate, reverse standing calf raises, hope this helps.-------------- "A will finds a way" Ivan Montreal Canada |

I just got that info from a trainer at my gym last week, about turning toes inward or out to target the inside and outside of the calf. Very helpful info. Wish he'd told me a year ago.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

Calfs are tough, sometimes it takes higher reps, like 40-50, w/a lighter weight. -------------- "Get everthing you want--just make a little change now" |

Ive read that since your calves are used to extremely high reps from helpin you walk around all day, that in order to shock them and get them out of their normal routine you have to go really heavy and low reps, which is hard to do with good form. but it is different from what theyre used to.

best thing i ever did for my calves............10 x 10 . 10 sets of 10 reps one excercise.........man you talking about having a knot in your calves ..................................if you want somthing different to work your calves try this..........get in a smith machine, get somthing like you would do a calf raise on, instead of the bar across your back, hold it on front of you like your doing a front squat...lil different fill-------------- ---andrew.......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! Here's somethin I do every once in a while: Go to your stairs or on a block or something and do 20 calf raises as fast as you can with your feet together, and then apart, and then do 10 single leg consecutively remember as fast as you can and really go down and up as far as you can. Rest for about a minute and then do the same thing except do it pretty slow and pause for 2 seconds at the contraction. Rest 1 minute and then do 10 as fast as you can with toes pointed out, and then slow. Then do the same thing with your toes pointed in immediately after. Rest 1 minute, and finally repeat the first step and you're done. Don't forget to stretch your calves very good after this. If you've not done much calf workouts, then you probably won't be able to complete this at full intensity because of the major burn it delivers. But if you are experienced and have strong calves, do it about 2 to 3 times a week every few weeks to shock your muscles.......you'lle be sore for days after this if you do it right. -------------- I firmly believe that any man\'s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi \"Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. Oh yeah, and DON'T USE STRENGTH SHOES. Forreal they'lle injure you in the long run and they don't work very well. Read the vertical jump post in this forum, it talks about those.-------------- I firmly believe that any man\'s finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is the moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-victorious. --Vince Lombardi \"Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it. About what andrew said on the 10 by 10. Its called german volume training, and charles poliquin promotes it quite a bit, and he is a man taht def knows what he is talking about. As for putting a knot in your calves, it will put a knot in ANY muscle group. I tried it for front squats once. OMG, i almost died. I had to cancel my plans that i had for later that night cuz i was so tired afterwards. just remember to use it as a variation, and not as your whole routine, because it can lead to overtraining very quickly.
