Hey, it's gotta be good, it says "Delicious Tasting!" How can you go wrong with a sales pitch like that.

Anyway... I'm new to this whole protein shake thing and I'm trying some samples out for the first time. I also understand the "you get what you pay for" theory, but expense is and issue.

What I would like to know is the quality of this particluar shake. Here is the nutritional breakdown:

Energy: 510kj
Fat: 1.8g
Sat - 1g
Trans - 0g
Cholesterol: 59mg
Sodium: 40mg
Potassium: 230mg
Carb: 2g
Fibre - 0.5g
Sugar - 1.7g
Protein - 24g
Vitamin A - 0%
Vitamin C - 0%
Calcium - 10%
Iron - 0%
Sucralose: 18mg

This is a 30g serving without the milk, water or other items added, just the whey.

Now, another question... is whey or soy better than one or the other or is it just a matter of choice?

Thanks!

I wouldn't use one with sugar. It already has the sucralose.Your protein is at 24g, which is 80% of the measurement, thats ok.The fat and carbs are low, which is good if you don't want to gain. There are many brands out there, just do the math, and find one that you like.
Whey is a better quality of protein then soy, and whey isolate is even better.
Thats my 2 cents.

The whey isolate is part of the protein blend in the indgredients. I'll give these samples a whirl and see what they're like. I believe it's sort of a generic brand or the store brand.

Thanks for the help carivan!

Guess I should also add that weight gains aren't really what I'm after. I kinda like the weight I'm at, just wanna replace the fat with muscle.

Then stay with the low fat and carbs. Really try and get away from the sugar.

Another dumb question... is it suggested to have a protein shake after cardio, or usually just after resistance training?

Perfect Isopure (Low Carb) MRP has the absolute best
Mix of everything and serves as a meal too.

I drink 3 a day and cannot say enough about them.

On the down side, it tastes similar to a Hershey bar filter through my shorts after a spirited set of Deadlifts and 30 mins of HIIT cardio, but as far as a perfect blend, there is no substitue.

Total Fat : 0.5 Grams
Saturated Fat : 0 Grams
Total Carbs : 10 g
Protein : 42 g
Calories : 220
Potassium : 1020 mg
Sugars : 0g

And a 100% of all vitimans.

You can get a 5.5 buckeet for about 55 bucks (cheaper than a trip to the grocery store).

Tim, I must be blind cuz I dont even see where you listed the calories. Most have between 100 and 125 per scoop. Soy protein powders are good for other times of the day and for adding to recipes. I prefer the soy because I have a problem with dairy. Since joining FT though I switched to the whey and just tolerate the digestive discomfort. I have heard here that the best time to have the whey protein is immediately after lifting, within 30 minutes. And a high protein, good carb meal about an hour after that. I havent heard anyone recommend a protein shake for post-cardio. I will have one occasionally anyway if I know I wont be able to eat anything for a while. But I think I have heard bb1 say that your nutritional needs after cardio are different than after lifting. I dont know if that helps much.

I use the same Andrew, what flavor do you like? I tried vanilla and it is ok, but I don't want 5lbs of something I won't like so I was afraid to buy the other flavors.

510 is kj's not calories. I am not sure how to convert that to calories from the metric.

clandress I looked at isopure its takes 2 or 3 scoops to equal a serving of 42 grams of protein. Mines 23 per 1 scoop, most people when they look at a protein they are like " hell ya 45 grams per serving"! But it takes like 3 scoops and they run out quicker. I like mine cause one scoop is all I need if I put it with non fat milk, after work out I use 2 scoops(46g protein )with water But I have herd that isopure is a very tasty one though,

I am taking strawberry right now csferrie not as good as vaniella. Best tasting sutff I have ever had was MUSCLE MILK blue berry flavor, man thats good stuff. Too much for too lil protein though

The protein I use has 31grms per scoop!
The important factor is the grams per scoop, this tells us how much filler is in the recipe. Higher % obviously better.

Okay, I checked... the calorie count is 120cal... 510kj. I had the chocolate one last night.. gonna try a vanilla tonight... see how that goes.

As for purchasing protein on line, does anyone know of a Canadian site? I found one at www.fitmart.com, but I really wanna compare prices.

Thanks....
