Do y'all have pets, and what do y'all find to be the best type?

I have two black laboradors and they're the best goofy little ba****ds anyone could ever have. They're so loyal.
Names: Joel and Dave. Joel is 2 Dave is 10...We've never had any hip problems with our labs, but Dave did tear both his ACLs last year, but now he's back at it again frisky as ever.

And we used to have a cat, but i think charlie attempted his famous power wash...now hes seem to have run away....

Ahh yes pets!

Black Lab(Male) 12 years young named Maverick. Very athletic in his day. Wants nothing more then being next to you. He has been awesome for me, and I am going to cry like a baby when the inevitable comes. I am also thankful that he keeps secrets really well.

New addition- Yellow Lab(Female) 3 months old named Macy...Quite the fireball, and loves everything. She is a blast because everything is new to her, and the old head turn ears up with curiousity look is an everyday experience.

Haven't seen our black cat in a long time. I know she is still alive though, because the infamous hairballs, and a filled litter box give it away. She stays away from my son and I because she knows we would try to flush her, or give her to Macy for a chew toy. The cat is 13, I call her Fat Bastard when I see her, and the kid isn't around. I think it was around Christmas last year when I saw her last.

We have 2 Border Collies, both girls. Lily is a blk/wht and will be 7 on March 17th. Rose is a red/wht and will be 6 on April 30. They are the smartest, most lovable dogs in the world. Present company's pets excluded of course. We refer to them as 'the girls'....never as just 'dogs'.

I have a part rottweiler/german shepard who is around 10 years old. Her name is Roxy and she is such a sweetheart. My husband used to work construction and she was the neighborhood stray where he was working at at the time. We love her dearly. We also have just gotten a Jack Russell Terrier, she is 7 weeks old and I have seen rats bigger than her. She is sooooo mischeivous. Her name is, well we really don't have one yet. Does anyone want to suggest something?? She is white with one black spot on her back hip.

It is amazing how dogs are part of the family. I wish I could have a best friend in a dog but living away from home and moving around all the time while in school prevents it.

We do have an young cat that sleeps all day. His name is Sergeant Meowenstein or just Sarge.

I have a doggy too. Her name is Jessie. She is a black lab that we rescued at a shelter (she was gonna be put down). She is the most smartest dog I've ever seen, Believe it or not, she opens and closes the sliding screen door. What more can I ask, when I am too lazy to let her out for a pee!

I have two siamese cats. My "boys" will be two years old in May. Kilo is a little neurotic :) and he talks A LOT! He's very social and loves to cuddle. Rameses is a bit more reserved....very princely....his name fits nicely. They sleep with me every night. I told my husband that if we ever get divorced he can have everything as long as I get custody of the cats. :) .....Oh, I also have two other cats and a dog who all live with my parents. Tabitha is a very prissy calico and Mittens is white and fluffy and has an extra toe on each of her front feet. My "puppy" Brandy, is almost 12. She's a chocolate lab and oh so loveable!

A 185 lbs Boston Great Dane named Tuxedo (looks like he's wearing one). As big and as protective as he is, with me he is still just a big lovable lug; everytime I come home and sit in a chair to take me shoes off, he tries climbing into my lap! And he is an big teddy bear with my room mate's 4 cats.

What a wonderful thread! :)

Meet Rona, my 10 months old Rottweiler - her head is bigger and more bear-like than it looks in the picture and she weighs around 25 kilos at the moment :) I should know, she weighs herself on my toes every single day :)

I see labradors are very popular with Americans - there are 2 American guys with 2 labs that i regularly bump into in the park.

Jukida is my 6 year old sheppard. She was abused and trained to attack sadistically by her prior owner. I have had her for two years and she's become much friendlier and gets her jackels up less and less. GS's are one of the most diciplined breeds I have ever seen. And smart too. Her favorite thing to do is to help me wash my car. LOL

I've had dogs, cats, ferrets, bunnies, birds, rats, frogs, and fish. My favorite by far are ferrets...they seem to be the perfect cross between cats and dogs; cunning like a cat playful and affectionate like a puppy.

I have 7 chihuahuas and a dachsund plus three cats. Also I have a group of evil animals after me all the time. Their leader is a Reality Moose, with the aardvark of doom, the platypus of pestilence, and the armadillo of destruction. they run around doing crazy things....I am afraid of them!

We have a dog, kind of a strange story. When my mother in law was dying, she was being cared for at home with cancer, there was some scratching at the door one day. Opened the door, and there was this puppy. My wife says she was "sent", and when her mom died we took her home with us. Very smart dog, took about a week to housebreak, we named her "dawg".(in case she ever has to spell it!)I have had a dog all my life, always had boxers, grew up with them, but this one is kind of special.

Meet Sir Whiskey Jack of Cadbury (look left), we just call him Jack for short. Golden, 2 1/2 years old, unfortunately, not very bright. Couldn't ask for a more loveable dog. Still follows me around like a puppy! He's spoiled, gets 2 walks a day and some ball time in the back yard (unless it's - 40, then it's just the walks). Favorite trick is to bring me the remote when he wants couch time - I kid you not!

OMG! You listed your kid!! TOO FUNNY! You have similar animals to ours except you got furry ones too!! I'm jealous!!

We have 4 fire bellied toads, tadpoles, guppies, an algae eater and snails (the snails came on their own accord).

Solid white male German Shepherd named Bo, Female Chow named Ginger, and a dirty male cat named Spencer. I wouldn't take a million dollars for either one but I wouldn't give a plug nickel for another one.

Shakaii, the toads sound too cool! Are they??

I guess I should have listed my pets names (remember I have a five year old)-
Cats- Mudpie and Sweetiepie (AKA Stinkypie)
Fish- Bluey
Crabs- Shiny, Shyie, Bigfoot, Taco, Rainbow, and Robin

I wish I had a pet named Party all the time like Taurie's feral cat! That's funny.

Yes, they're real crabs! Actually hermit crabs aren't "real" crabs, but for all intents and purposes they are crabs. LOL

They are like a moving rock garden in my computer room! I have pictures of a few of them at http://photos.yahoo.com - Bigfoot and Taco are Caribbean and Robin is an Ecuadorian.

Oh yeah, there's also a picture of the five year old holding Taco. LOL

Jessica,
The toads are OK. They were cool to start with, but we have to feed them crickets as they do not get their food with their tongue (as other toads do). They have to have moving, live food in order to eat. So, we constantly have cricket parts floating in the tank. Also, unfortunately, we sometimes get loud crickets which makes me sick!
I'm not against the toads, but I'm sure the crabs are better!
Oh, one of the toad's name is Stubby, because he has no fingers on his front left arm.

Here's my Pet Wish list:
A horse named Ayeshtani.
Dogs named Jack, Alphonsis, Max... I'm sure I can think of some other great names. :o)

Yes, the live food thing does sort of make me cringe, not out of the kindness of my heart but because I would assume you also have to keep and care for the crickets as you wait for them to be consumed? LOL But it could be worse, I have a friend who has a huge Burmese python and they have to feed her rabbits. :(

The crabs are sweet, they eat very little and it's fun to get them to try new things like mangos, coconut, GoLean Crunch... you get the idea.

We tried keeping the crickets, but the methane gas kills them off faster than we feed our toads... SO, we spend about 3 or so bucks at the pet store every 2 weeks on crickets.
Is it possible to have crabs in a tank with water? Our tank is 1/2 and 1/2.

It's definitely possible to have crabs in a tank w/ water, as long as there are rocks or sponges in the pool for the smaller crabs to climb out if they need to. They're not much for swimming. LOL But they will wade into the water to replenish their shell water and hydrate their gills (they breathe air through modified gills). But I wouldn't try putting them in w/ frogs - I have heard of people trying to put the crabs in a tank w/ frogs and the crabs contracted some disease from the frogs, apparently the frogs were immune.

I was thinking of when our toads bite the dust. Our toads are poisonous... so no licking them (haha). The fish seem to be unaffected by the toads except for my beta. I once had a beta in the tank and it's fins totally disintigrated because of the toads (so I assume).
I'll keep the crabs in mind for when the toads die.

Another dog name - Jake.
