It won't be long until I am through with a 12 week strength & mass building program. I am planning on resting for about two weeks after I am done with that program and then getting back into the gym. I'm trying to gain muscle weight but I'm not sure as to what to do when I go back. Should I try and tone the muscle with circuit training? Just looking for some advice. Thanks.

The FT sight recommends 2 weeks off after the 12 week mass program. You realize that growth occours during rest and not during working out????

yeah, i'm with charlie... muscles don't grow at the gym... you rip them apart at the gym... they grow at home when you're resting them... so take the two weeks off instead...

I usually advise taking 2 weeks off if you are training on more than an 8-week cycle. I usually cycle off only 1 week (minimum 5 days), but that's every 6 weeks of hard training.

also depends on your own body's recovery rates. If after a week off you feel like your gonna go crazy, and tear the gym door down, i'd say your ready, although I don't know the workout son here right off hand so I don't know what you have been doing. My thing is if you need rest , rest by all means, if you feel you can work out work out. I might work out 4 days in a row, then take 3 days off in a row, listen to your body, it will lead you and tell you what to do.

I lift three days a week to allow for some recovery time between workouts and to allow a week between specific body parts (chest & back one day, shoulders & arms on another, then legs at the end of the week). I've definitely experienced some size gains but have never really taken two weeks off since I started lifting three years ago. After the break, should I undertake a cardio intensive workout with higher repetition lifts? I do want size gains but I want healthy muscles, not just big ones.
