Hello everybody, I am trying to start a new workout, and my goal is to lose about 25 lbs by May. I have heard good things about the South Beach Diet, and my family bought me the book for Xmas. Has anybody out there tried this thing?? Any tips for a new guy like me? Also, how much should I expect to lose, and will that be accelerated by cardio and lifting weights? Thanks for all your help.

i've heard of a lot of people who were in the south beach diet, but i'm not really into that stuff, so i don't know exactly what it is like... but the best way to lose weight (fats) is to have a controlled diet and exercise... the combination of weights and cardio is best... do a little search on this boards for what is known as HIIT (a very effective form of cardio)... that should help you achieve your goals... good luck!

the South Beach Diet is great. I have been on since Jan 11th 2004. Combined with weight lifting 3 days a week and cardio 3 days a week I have lost 31 lbs. Went from 192 to 161 lbs. Feel great and would recommend it to anyone. The food was not as bad as I thought it would be. The meals are pretty good. I stayed on phase one for 3 weeks, I currently on my 4th week of phase 2. I am pretty much ready to start phase three, and work on maintaining my current weight. Good luck...... Michael
