i have finally taken my diet under SERIOUS SERIOUS control (to lose about 10 - 15lbs) and i'm craving some of the "old foods". its like a drug. i actually almost bought some xenadrine but i feel like i'd be so much happier and proud if i lose those last few pounds on my own hard work. i'm just wondering what you guys do to curb your cravings when you're seriously dieting? for some tips and ideas. thanks a lot.

I look for or create a low calorie substitute for what Im craving. Totally eliminating the foods you love will only set yourself up for failure. If it is a certain meal, say tacos or lasagne. Allow yourself that as a treat once or twice a month. Knowing that I can have those things once in a while keeps me from giving up.-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Do not be discouraged; everyone who got where he is, started where he was.--anon ...There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.--Beverly Sills |

I'm having a hard time right now with needing sweets late. I use Splenda in coffee and cereal, but I'm a sucker for Snicker's Poppables (rougly 1800 calories per bag).
My mouth is watering right now. I don't know where these cravings snuck up from. Chicken sandwiches, cereals, ice creams, and friggin Poppables. And summer is coming. I gotta be careful! I try to do something else that will keep me occupied.. hang out on the internet reading message boards, clean out my sock drawer, alphabetize my CD's.. what? That doesn't sound better than chocolate? Oh alright.. a tiny stash of Hershey Kisses does exist in my house. HOWEVER, it's for AFTER the dog's been walked, cars been washed, laundry folded AND put away, and there is a ritual involved.
You must remove yourself to a place without distraction, sloooowly unwrap it, place carefully on your tongue, then lie back, close your eyes and let it melt slowly, savoring every bit. When finished, walk the dog again.. Briskly!! -------------- : ] ~Danielle Firm Butt Thin Thighs Flat Abs - repeat this mantra as needed whenever an unhealthy urge arises. |

I have found the cravings go away with time. I used to eat white bread like it was going out of style. I am over it now lol but the other day I had a slice and I wanted to go thru the loaf like chocolate chip cookies lol.-------------- I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. I agree with mmaibohm the cravings do go away with time. I was a Pepsi freak and switched to diet soda and found that i dont drink it as much, in return i drink more water.Good luck.

Funny! Ok, one thing I have found that helps is a little, caramel hard-candy called, "Nips." I know they are fairly low calorie, and they are essentially too difficult to just devour, so you have to eat them slow. Love them long time.
This is a ritual of yours, this slow Kiss on the toungue? Actually, its funny cause i found something that relieves the craving pretty well just about a day after i posted that. Trident sugarless Cinnomon gum. it gives me the flavor rush that i crave. it works pretty well and is about as harmful as water. even helps my teeth, this way i dont go losing them at 18yrs of age.
