Ok first off I have seen the Pain train quote at the end of someones signature and I hope you dont mind that I used it because I love it and the pain is worth the results in my yes. The motivation hit me yesterday and worked out my back and then 4 miles on the treadmill.......and had my protein shake with a salad for dinner. Thie morning 45 min on level 7 on the bike then sprinted for a mile on the treadmill and then abs..........breakfast protein shake and an apple.........this evening chest and calves and more cardio. I have a few questions.......I am not taking any vitamins and I am curious to know which ones are best for women......also I know this may sound silly but I would like to be in good enough shape to maybe compete after my 2 year tour here is up..........is this reasonable or not?? I will be 31 in may...is this too old??? If so what do I need to do to get on that track. I lift right now but not a crazy amount of weight although I do try to increase it some by every set.
My weakness is chocolate milk (which I dont drink every day but when I see it in the store I will buy it and maybe have a swig of that instead of eating something before the gym because it satisfies my hunger) and my other weakness is BEER..........I dont drink during the week and only drink one night during the weekend but I look at it this way if I drink then that is longer on the treadmill for me. seeing as how any social interaction I can have with people is when I go to a bar here it is hard not to want to go just for the sake of being around someone other then yourself. Any words of advice here in what I can do to head down the path I want to take.......I am dedicated motivated and willing I just need someone to guide the way. One more thing.....my more used to compete and I want to make her proud of me not to say that she isnt but maybe fulfill 2 dreams at once......... -------------- you can lead the horse to the water but you can't make them drink..... ~lynnoakdale |

You are never too old to compete, and it is not silly. My only advice to you would be that if you want to compete, you need to make sacrifices. I dont know how many people that compete drink beer frequently. I wish you luck and you have a great support group right here.-------------- Hecdarec in full effect. |

I am not saying to give the stuff up completely. I was just saying if you want to compete you probably want to monitor your drinking closely. -------------- Hecdarec in full effect. |

Hi Lynn, I relate to your questions completely and hope that some experienced ft members will have some good answers for you.. I am at the same point where I have really taken my resistance training to a new level these last few months and wonder, what would it take to go to the 'competition' level. ((By the way, I believe there are age categories, I am 34 and would be at the high end of my category, then move to the next one at 35. Don't remember what the bottom end of that range is though :())
Also with you tonight on the beer:love: dilemma!! Tonight is our bimonthly work outing at which traditionally I am an 'instigator' I guess, I usually have quite a few brews; I am trying to decide if I should commit to none at all, or limit myself to just a couple then do two-a-day cardio both Sat and Sun to make up for them. Monday through Friday :dumbbell::):dumbbell: But ooohh those weekends!! -------------- : ] ~ Danielle Firm Butt Thin Thighs Flat Abs - repeat this mantra as needed whenever an unhealthy urge arises. |

Danielle........I am glad to hear that I am not alone with the weight training and the beers........Yes I love beer and I did have 2 last night and I swear to god those were the best tasting beers I have ever tasted. I did spend an hour at the gym last night and man was I tired after because I had a strenuous work out that morning on the bike so my legs were pretty sore and tired. I have been taking this more serioulsy in the past few months then ever and that is because I am seeing some results and wonder what it would take to go all the way. I am still in the learning stages so there is a long way for me to go but I am willing. Yesterday I bench pressed 35 pounds ok not alot but for me I was excited.....it is the Baby steps I have to take an also when I am at the gym I work out alone (lack of people in there when I am there) so I am only working with the weight I know I can do and not work my muscle to failure because I could just imagine it a weight falling on me and it would be days before anyone would notice. someone told me last night that by weight training and an extensive amount of cardio that I was confusing my body.....is this right? I have never heard such a thing. I want to lose and tone and they said that I should get to the weight I want to first before I start the toning process.......I slipped today and had peanut M&M's thanks to the box of JUNK FOOD my sister sent me I have no idea what she was thinking..........as far as the beer is this the wrong way to think.....I know if I drink alot then that is more time on the treadmill for me. I try to drink on the weekends only but after a week or working i need to go out and let my hair down and have a good time. Thanks for all the words of wisdom and I am there with ya girlfriend........It is all the way for me!!!! NO turning back now...
