yes, it protects your back. I would make shure your wearing it for dead lifts, squats.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it is gone past me I will turn to see fear's path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.

This is a much debated topic. I have a belt. I have used it exaclty 2 times in the last year that was just when i was maxing on deadlifts and squats. All my other lifts including deads and squats I never wear it. I think it hinders breatheing and also can cause the lower back to be weaker....but, if you have a old injury or throw your back out I would use it but as a little as possible. Work on building core strength..

YEa this is a weird topic and everyone has opinions on it, I wear one and only for 2 lifts, squats and deadlifts. Just because when I do wear one ,I suck my stomach in to keep it off the belt which helps in stability. But when i'm done with those excercises I go hang it back on the wall. I can do over head cleans, cleans, militarty, arnold presses and all that with out them, just for soem reson i wear them with those 2 lifts. Old saying goes if its not broke don't fix it, wear one when you need it , and if you don't need one don't wear one simple as that.
Do back hypers, deadlifts, good mornings they will help in lower back strength.
