I've heard there are 3500 kcals in a pound of fat...! I may stand corrected, but that's what I was given at a fitness seminar a couple of weeks ago....

3500 is correct. It takes a 3500 calorie deficit to lose one lb., as well as an extra 3500 calories to gain one. That of course is assuming that every pound you eat or burn is utilized.

I should say every calorie. But you know that is not the case.

Thank you bb1fit! I am eating sensibly at the moment I have cut out all sweet, fried and bad things out of my diet. I have decided as well as doing weights 3 times a week. If I did cardio (ski machine) 6 times a week for 50mins this according to the machine I burn around 600 calories, so if I do that 6 times a week I should lose at least 1 pound of fat per week? Well here's hoping anyway! :)
