The other day I picked up a new protein powder. It only has 22g of protein per serving but the taste is good. My question is it has 14.74g of glutamic acid and 2g of arginine. I drink this shake twice a day. I also take a glutamine supplement which has 10.3g of glutamine and 1.5g of arginine. I take this 2 times a day as recommended on the bottle. This means that I am taking in 50.05g of glutamine and 7g of arginine. That seems like an awful lot. Is this to much?

Generally you can't really over do it with glutamine. I have it on the side for the days i really hurt from an intense workout or if i begining to over train. But keep in mind that just cause it wont hurt you dosn't mean its worth it. 50g might just end up wasting most of it and turn into expensive pee.

If you are going to take glutamine twice per day, which is good, post workout and pre bed are probably the best two times. Glutamine is one of those things you can never get enough of. The arginine should help with the pump, so if you choose, you may want to take one of your doses, the glutamine/arginine combo pre workout. This would also be a great time, and as mentioned, the arginine should help your pump out. You cannot really take glutamine too much. Though not an esential amino acid, it has been termed a “conditionally essential” amino acid. Along with the amino acid alanine, glutamine represents 50% of amino acids unleashed from muscles
