Snowbound!! need help from my northern f

How do you measure snow depth. It can't be as simple as just sticking a yardstick in the ground. Is there a technique to it. BB1 you can let someone else answer because I know your formula will involve quantum physics.:laugh: If all thats involved is a yard stick we have 18" in Charlotte:laugh::cool: Its still going strong too.

Well, you can go outside, take a bucket and fill it up with snow.
Then, take it in the house, let it melt, and for every inch of water in the bucket, that equals 10 inches of snow!

Actually, just go out to a level area where there was no wind and measure the depth. That is how it is done by enviroment canada. Usually at the airport, or weatherstation.

Wow, it was almost 70 degrees here today. I can't believe you guys are getting that much snow down in NC.

Sorry to hear about the storm damage, btw! We had a bad ice storm this time last year and it wiped out the whole town. The neighborhoods w/ big old trees (like ours) were just demolished, the roads were covered w/ fallen trees, none of the traffic lights worked, and it took over a week to get everyone's power back on, and that was w/ relief trucks coming in from out of state to help us out. It was unbelievable! In the South you just don't expect to have to deal w/ that sort of thing. LOL The recovery can be very slow!

Ha ha ha...just a little taste of the Northern life...its funny because it snowed a couple of days ago down in the Carolinas, but today it was like 70 degrees down there. Strange. IVAN, we only have a few more weeks of winter my Canadien friend...mine will be a little shorter because I'm further South but North enough to feel winter.

18" you say Charlie? That's just a snow flurry for us! No, just kidding, that's a half decent pile. When your not used to it or prepared for it, it causes alot of damage. Glad to see your boat made out O.K. By the sound of it, it must have been pretty heavy and wet (the worst kind). Get a shovel, put on some good strong coffee and enjoy!

Hey good to see it melted! It has been above the freezing point here for the last few days, and the snow is melting.
JDELTS...it's going but we always get our March dump, that heavy wet stuff from the south. Enjoying the heat wave while I can, and getting the bike ready.

Jessica, I say this with love and respect... YOU SUCK! It's 40 degrees here and raining. Yes, the snow has melted off but it's still not as warm as I like it. Aw well, I guess that's what I get for still living in boring podunk Kansas. Soon, though, it'll be too warm to enjoy... 100 degrees and humid. ick

However, NEXT WEEK, I get to go to Orlando for a week... YAY!!!!!

It's not just Kansas shakkai. Our usual 70 degree winters here in southern AZ went into hibernation this year. The last few weeks the majority of the days have been in the 50's and raining. (We can always use the rain though.) I think its great cuz I miss cold weather, but all the golfers and sunworshippers who moved here for the mild winters and sunshine are grumbling. Its supposed to be 90 in Baghdad this weekend
