Hi. Just wanted to let those who are interested know that I found a great tasting low carb protein bar. It's called 'Glow' by Luna. 140 cal, 7g fat, 15g carbs less than 1g sugar but, it has 11g sugar alcohol (not sure what that means) and 1g fiber, and 8g protein. Tastes like Good Humor, Strawberry Short Cake Ice cream...amazing!

Sugar alcohols contain carbs but have not been classified for labelling purposes. At least they're not hiding them as has been done in the past.

At the time of day I eat a protein bar (or would need to) I actually need the carbs too. Im not sure about all this low carb stuff. Does it help you Taurie? When I was looking at salad dressing labels I noticed the ones that were low or no carb had 2x as many calories so I didnt see the advantage when counting both.

If flavor is being removed as carbs, it's being added back in as fat, often not good fat. That's where the extra calories are coming from. They also like to jack up the price on these products.

I bought them out of curiosity. And, was delightfully surprised. Does taste more like a candy bar than a protein bar and for a $1.00 a bar...don't think it'll do any damage.
Azred, I'm definately not an adamant lo-carb dieter...However, I do have to pay attention to the type of carbs that I eat. I seem to have an easier time losing bf when my last 2 meals are just protein and veggies...but, at the same time when it comes to salad dressing I just use my favorite tasting regardless of cal/fat/carbs and use it sparingly :)
I did some research on sugar alcohols and found that they don't efect blood sugar levels hence, they are used in foods for diabetics. But, like all else moderation is the key.

Being that I am diabetic the sugar alchol containing food do not have an impact on my blood glucose level. Just incase someone wanted to hear it from the mouth of one lol.:dumbbell:

Just curious. Even though it has no impact on blood sugar it is still 4 calories per gram of carbs, right? I mean the body still uses them or doesn't it? As I said, just curious.

About 1.5 to 3 calories per carb.
I found some info...check it out if your interested.
