Many nights I have no choice but to workout late. Also, many nights I play hockey late. My dilema is, since I do these both about an hour before bed sometimes, I can only fit 1 shake in my stomach. Do I go for the post workout shake of pure whey or do I go with my normal low carb, slow digesting shake that I would have normally before bed if I worked out earlier?

I would have a "cutting" shake, which is 1/2 your normal shake when gaining, and just use malto. Try to stay up a 1/2 hour at least after finishing this, gastric emptying will occur fairly quickly, and then have some "food", slow digesting like cottage cheese and some fats...1 tbsp of flax will do, some fiber wouldn't hurt either, like a tbsp. of flax meal sprinkled on the cottage cheese, or at the least, a tbsp. of flax seed sprinkled on it..this will in fact help in 2 areas, slow digestion and have no impact on blood sugars.
