I know, i am probably gonna get yelled at, but does anyone have any good recommendations on getting the bar off your chest when you don't have a spot and nobody is around?
It happened to me tonight. I was working out at home, alone doing chest. I really wanted to get one more rep in. Well, lets just say I couldn't do it. Now I have a bar laying on my chest. Good thing I am a little guy and it was only 80 pounds. Anyway, I didn't panic. I tried to situp. That wasn't happening. I couldn't bench it, I wasn't gonna do a situp with it. This is what I did: I rolled it down my chest, over my abs, (LOOK OUT NADS) and was able to then situp with the bar on my quads. I then was able to lift it off. Anyone got any good suggestions on how to get the bar off if I find myself in this predicament again? |

Well if you dont use clips you can dump the weight. Just tip the bard side to side and let them fall off. Thats the reason I dont use clips.-------------- I am that which must be feared, worshipped and adored. The world is mine now and forever. No one holds command over me. No man. No god. Consider yourself fortunate. It could have been 135 and pressing on your throat!
There is no technique to dismount the barbell. If you don't have a spotter, keep it within your range. Glad you are ok! -------------- "A will finds a way, failure is not an option" Ivan carivan@freetrainers.com Montreal Canada |

Yeah, if I am all alone, I don't put the clips on, that way I can dump the weight.
Be careful!!!!:surprised: |

maybe i need to install a winch into my ceiling. this way if i am in this perdicament again, hit the button and lift off.
Or maybe i should workout in a garage and connect a cable to the garage door opener and keep the remote handy. But i guess I would need a garage for that.:laugh: I think the funniest part of the whole ordeal is my dog was staring at me while I am laying there with this dumb look on her face. I wish she was more like lassie, cause you know lassie would have saved timmy!! |

Get a good spotter...not using the clips can be bad and you could injure yourself that way as well....if you are unstable and start wobbling they can fall off leaving your to throw your body to the otherside and likely tear or pull something. Be careful and go with what you can lift...if you are at the gym use the Smith machine to push further without a spotter. What you did by rolling it down your body is the correct way to safely get the bar off by the way.

If you really were industrious, you could build yourself a smith machine type system with two winches..... put some sawhorses on either side of the bench to set the bar on and maybe you can wiggle out...
The dog is just staring at you because she can bench more than you can and couldn't believe you got stuck (and she doesn't even have thumbs!) -------------- "To be able to go to the gym and train hard is a joy and a privelege, even though the hard work necessitates driving yourself through considerable discomfort. My advice would be to not do weight you cant handle. If I do not have a spotter I can usually tell when I am going to fail and I wont go past that. Not to mention I have a fear of getting stuck and then screaming out for help like a small unwwanted child.-------------- My gym dues are not paid with money. |
