insulin spiking is when you use sugars and simple carbs to aid in sending the nutrient (creatine usually) into the muscle allowing for high level of utilization of the supplement. thats why there are many products out there that already contain the sugars and carbs (i.e. cell tech, GNC mega creatine) so you wont have to use a beverage that already does such as grape or orange juice. most people just mix the creatine in grape or orange juice for this purpose. the sugars and carbs spike your insulin to be relased which will then send the creatine to your muscles faster and with a higher concentration.

In simple terms, insulin spiking is raising your blood sugar levels up to a point where the pancreas secretes insulin in response to rising levels of glucose or protein in the bloodstream. Insulin is the hormone responsible for transporting glucose and amino acids through the bloodstream and into the muscle cell. This will blunt cortisol, which is a hormone produced in response to stenuous exercise, through a drop in blood sugar levels. This must be supressed as quickly as possible.

The result if not??
Protein synthesis will simply NOT occur if there is an insufficient or delayed supply of energy and amino acids to offset post-workout catabolism.

In other words, spike immediately AFTER your workout then drink 1/2 of your protein shake fast, then sip on the rest for the next 1/2hour for better absorbtion. DUDE, IT WORKS, TRUST ME!!!

I heard that the body can only absorb 5g of creatine at a time.. is there a cap as to how much protein the body can absorb at once, or in a short period of time?

one last question..
When starting with Creatine, and in the 'load' phase, do you mix the creatine with anything, or just do it post workout with the d/m/p mix? What if I only have the protein mix every other day? Do I mix the d/m in the creatine?

dont mix it in with your shake... have it seperate, all by its self

Mix it with water and drink immedietely, creatine turns to a waste product if you let it sit too long in liquid

I understand that it turns to waste.. I was told to mix protein powder with Dextrose and Malto.. then 30 minutes later, drink creatine. The Dextrose will drive the creatine in the muscles..
What about the load phase though? Do I need some sort of sugars to start the load process? How often should I be taking creatine during load?
And also, what about the days I don't workout and don't have the postworkout protein mix with Dextrose and Malto? Do I drink the creatine by itself, or do I need some sort of sugar with it?

During loading do not use sugars. Just water, you do not need any extra inuslin surges. You will saturate your muscles just fine this way.

And vinnie, use your lean bodyweight to start. YOu say you are 166, say for instance you are 10% bf. So, you would base on approximately 150 lbs. of lean bodyweight. Trying to gain weight then, a good place to begin would be 37.5 gr. each of dextrose and malto, and 37.5 gr. of protein. Good luck....

Do not use the dextrose/malto on your days off. There is no reason to, this is strictly a recovery drink. You want no unwanted insulin spikes. The only time this is good is post workout, and occasionally first thing in the morning to a lesser degree, but we will not go into that.

oh man.. wanted to ask one more thing!.. so 37.5 grams of malto and dextrose would be approx. 7 teaspoons each?
