Hi! I have heard about the many benefits of detoxification, mainly the type where you only drink juices and water and herbal teas. I held an apple day two years ago, but this time I want to do the liquid only diet for two days. Since I just finished my 8 week program I am on a week break, so this detox falls right into schedule. I think I will start on Monday and not eat anything solid till wednesday morning. So question is, since I am not working out anyway, is this an ok thing to do?And who has tried it before...and any experiences/recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would never do it again. Initially I was going to do it for three days. After exacty 48 hours I found myself weeping and shaking. I immediately drove myself to subway and:big_smile: ordered a 12" subway club w/ everything on it. I stuffed my face with that sandwich and haven't looked back since. -------------- My gym dues are not paid with money. |

I have used fiber detoxifiers and although ver gross, seemed to clean me out and made my stools perfectly regular.
One other supplement that I like to use from time to time is called bentonite for detoxification. Bentonite is volcanic clay that when mixed with water has super absorbant powers. The clay is negatively charged while most toxins are positively charged. The toxins stick to the bentonite and you pass them in your bowels. The bentonite I took was in liquid format. Had really no taste. A few tbsp's a day and lots of water. When I took this, i felt extremely healthy and energetic. I am not sure if it was the placebo effect or not, but whatever it was, I felt great. In addition, it gave me the most perfect bowels every. I don't know if it is advisable to take this when using creatine because they both utilize lots of water. I found a blurb on it here: http://www.curezone.com/cleanse/bowel/bentonite.html This is part of what it says on that site. Has anyone ever tried this? A VOLCANIC DETOXIFIER—Bentonite, a medicinal powdered clay which is also known as montmorillonite, derives from deposits of weathered volcanic ash. It is one of the most effective natural intestinal detoxifying agents available and has been recognized as such for centuries by native peoples around the world. Whatever the name, liquid clay contains minerals that, once inside the gastrointestinal tract, are able to absorb toxins and deliver mineral nutrients to an impressive degree, says Knishinsky. Liquid clay is inert which means it passes through the body undigested. Technically, the clay first adsorbs toxins (heavy metals, free radicals, pesticides), attracting them to its extensive surface area where they adhere like flies to sticky paper; then it absorbs the toxins, taking them in the way a sponge mops up a kitchen counter mess. There is an electrical aspect to bentonite’s ability to bind and absorb toxins. According to Yerba Prima, a company based in Ashland, Oregon, which markets Great Plains® Bentonite, the clay’s minerals are negatively charged while toxins tend to be positively charged; hence the clay’s attraction works like a magnet drawing metal shavings. But it’s even more involved than that. Once hydrated (combined with water), bentonite has an enormous surface area. According to Yerba Prima, a single quart bottle can represent a total surface area of 960 square yards or 12 American football fields. Bentonite is made of a great number of tiny platelets, with negative electrical charges on their flat surfaces and positive charges on their edges. When bentonite absorbs water and swells, it is stretched open like a highly porous sponge; the toxins are drawn into these spaces by electrical attraction and bound fast. In fact, according to the Canadian Journal of Microbiology (31 , 50-53), bentonite can absorb pathogenic viruses, aflatoxin (a mold), and pesticides and herbicides including Paraquat and Roundup. The clay is eventually eliminated from the body with the toxins bound to its multiple surfaces. According to Sonne’s Organic Foods of North Kansas City, Missouri, a company that markets Detoxificant (a liquid montmorillonite), “There is no evidence that bentonite has any chemical action in the body. Its power is purely physical.” -------------- Don't sweat what you have no control over... WILL IT MATTER IN A HUNDRED YEARS.... |

This kind of cleaning out your body, is really more mental than anything. After doing it, you might feel clean and renewed, or you might feel like crap...depends on how you are looking at it. Every once in a while I do this, but only for 2 days tops, and I try to drink juices that are high in calories, and lots of them. You get some vitamins, and minimal nutrition and give your body a break from processing all the crap we eat all the time. Be careful though..if you find yourself getting light headed, dizzy, or nauseated, you need to eat something, even if it is only like an apple or a yogurt.

I read that feeling dizzy and really bad overall for the first day or two is only natural because the toxins in the body are getting back into the bloodstream from which it will go through the kidneys and out through urine. That is why you should stay home and rest a lot. But I also read that if you do a juice only diet, the hunger feeling will go away after the first day too, but once you eat something you will be hungry consistenly. That is why I only want to do a juice only (beet juice for me) diet because I hate being hungry!! But I feel that giving two days off for the digestive system is only a good thing; atleast that's what I've been reading. Check out this site if you're interested, http://www.jcandwe.com/diet.html
Thanks for the advice/info so far. I know it's going to be hard, but I want to give it a try...to test my will power and to clean out my body. I will post how I am feeling once I start on Monday...atleast you'll all get some good laughs at my whining. LoL. By the way Ssminnow, where do you buy that lava stuff??I'd rather eat lava then startve for two days.Must be expensive though. |

most healthfood stores have it. its much mroe common then many think. i don't think it is that expensive either. good luck with it and make sure to drink plenty of water.
also, when cleansing, you may want to take some enzymes to assist with digestion. Also, when cleansing, good bacteria that is in the intestinal tract is removed from the body. be sure to take acidopholus (good bacteria) to replenish what the cleansing removes. you can get acidophilus at any health food store. also, acidopholus should be taken when on antibiotics because antibiotics kill that good bacteria. -------------- Don't sweat what you have no control over... Hey Diana!...My girlfriend did a sick detox a couple of weeks ago and she feels great after doing it. If you would like some info about what she did, I'll get her to post it for you. On FT her name is jlynch63. Its pretty intense and you're going to need a juicer and a butt-load of fruits and veggies. Lemme know if you're interested.-------------- Baseball is wrong: Man with four balls cannot walk. Jdelts@freetrainers.com |

Gotta go with a juicer for this one. She was able to do it for 3 days. Its pretty intense and the three days are necessary. If you can hold out a couple of days, I would appreciate it, we are extremely busy this weekend but I'll get her to give you the references for the diet...everything is online. Unfortunately I don't have and don't know anyone around here who does have a juicer, so I won't be able to do the diet your girlfriend did. Maybe I will invest in one in the future, and when I do I'll get back to ya for the info. Thanks a lot though!! I'm starting the diet tomorrow and going till wednesday morning; I think i'll be drinking 100% pineapple juice OR tomato juice. Anyone have any recommendation as to which is better?

Thank you for the really great info!! Yes, I originally wanted to do the juice diet, however, since I planned on starting today I was not able to even look for a not-so-expensive juicer. So I will try the juice diet whenever I get a chance to buy once.(silly me thought the blender will do but I didn't realize the fiber thing). But for now, I am doing an apple-carrot diet for two days. It's supposedly easy on the digestive system and also cleans out the intestines. I bought some detoxifying tea and have loaded up on bottles of mineral water. So far today I ate one carrot and two apples...loads of water and tea...and am actually feeling pretty good!! Not as hungry as I thought. I even hopped on my indoor bike and went for 30 minutes, followed by a hot-cold shower. So thanks for all the great infor/advice. I checked out that website you mentioned and it really does have a lot of usefeul info. I put it in my favorites folder and will defidently get back to it. Thanks!
