Who here gets annoyed when some people at the gym get under heavy weight and start screaming and howling when they push their reps? Im just waiting for a day to come when one of those guys is gasy and cuts the cheese on his last rep :(

Well if that bothers you get out of the gym. Some times it takes a grunt or a scream to get the explosion you need to get that last few reps out. Why dont you go to the water walking class at the ymca with the older folks if you need peace and quiet. ps: I personally have let loose a grunt moan and some gass at the gym.

I never hear any of it. Headphones tend to drown it out.

While I agree grunting/screaming may not be something that can be completely avoided, some people go overboard. Some people just scream for scream's sake.

I hate the one's who scream for scream's sake, but some are actually working THAT hard where they need to make some noise. The only exercise I make any audible noise is deadlift because it takes every ounce of energy in me to get that freakin weight up.

You can tell who the people are that are grunting just to grunt. I hate them. Me I need to let out a grunt on squats and deadlifts. I try not to be too dramatic though.

yeah...deadlift makes me grunt a little. and i actually let out a pretty sweet (aka really terrible smelling) fart last week when doing leg extension. only time i've ever farted while in the middle of a set. kinda fun..i might do it again sometime.

I can understand a bit of a gutteral noise when exerting, I do it. It is almost like a mini-kiyaa like in karate (hup), but the screamers do annoy me. There used to be guy at Ballys who sounded like a freakin' weight room porno. I liked the guiy - really nice guy, trying really hard to lose weight, but, dude, cut the crap and focus on lifting instead of how much noise you can make. You could hear him in the locker room on the other side of the gym. A bit excessive.

Gas comes with the territory, what do you expect from a bunch of protein chugging, fiber/vegetable eating monsters? But it is nasty when they do it in front of the fan. i have almost fallen off the treadmill before. The worst is when they run by on the track around the cardio area and fart every time they pass the fan.... ugho:surprised:

when i go home for summer break, i have the key to my highschool weightroom, and I go up there with only one other person, and usually push myself enough so that i ahve to scream on the last few reps of every set, and it really helps. I really hate to do it with a lot of people around, bu i do know that I don't scream for the sake of screaming or to draw attention to myself. It really does help though.

scream if you have to, but dont do it just for the heck of doing it... i've done it before on deadlifts as well though dont really think it helps much on other stuff.

There's nothing like letting out a big 'aarrrghhhh ggahh yeeesSSSS!!!' scream to get the entire gym to notice you.
And if that doesn't do it, be sure to slam the weights down and let out an 'OH YAH BABY, who's your daddy!' once you're done. And for a nice finishing touch look in the mirror and all at once flex and yell out 'BaM!' Before you know it everyone in the gym will know who you are.

My sarcasm isn't meant to offend those people who do grunt or make noises in the gym because it is helpful to their workout. I let some out myself. There's just a difference between 'natural' and excessive. but whatever...it will never stop me from working out. In fact, it kinda makes me laugh, and I'll have a funny story to tell later on.

You may substitute the word 'necessary' for the word 'natural' in the above post if you wish.

This is totally off the subject but hubby just brought back a t-shirt from Iraq that says 'Who's your Baghdaddy?' I thought that was so cute.
