Hello Everybody:

First of all, I’d like to thank the people who created this great site. I know I’m going to learn a lot out of it. Well, first of all, I’m here for the same reason many people is here. I’m trying to loose some weight. I’m 27, 6.3, and I weight 225 Lb. I’ve been looking for a better way to keep track of my food. Here’s what I eat everyday and I’m still gaining some extra pounds: I eat cereal the first thing in the morning at about 9 am, then, after 2 hours, I eat a cup of cut fruit. I drink about 3 bottles of 500 ml water in the morning. In the afternoon, I go to the gym ( I started going to the gym about a week ago) and at about 6 pm I have a big dinner. I think what I’m doing is wrong. I work in an office and I don’t move that much, which is why I decided to go to the gym. Can somebody guide me on how to eat better and what to eat so I can loose weight and gain muscle?

Thank you all very much!

Welcome to ft. First off, as strange as it may sound, it sounds as if you are not eating enough. This is especially true when you look at your consumption earlier in the day. Your body feels as if it is 'starving' and your metabolism slows. Then you load up on dinner and excess calories are converted to fat. Check out the diet and exercise forums and consider increasing your calories to match your activity level. Spread these calories evenly throughout the day. Double your water intake (at least). Ask specific questions as they arise. Good Luck.

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. As of today, I started to drink more water, about 4 liters a day. What should I be eating? Should I stop eating big meals at night. I’m going to the gym in the afternoon 5 days a week and I’m doing a lot of work out exercises. I started about a week ago. I have created a schedule based on the fitness plan option given to me here. Can you help me on my nutritional balance?

Your best bet is to eat 5-6 smaller meals a day. make sure you get your daily intake of p/c/f in each meal if possible. I will usually use a protien bar or MRP for a couple of the meals just because I don't have time to cook.
I would also suggest doing cardio 2-3 times a week and resistance training 2-3 times a week for the weight loss. Once you accomplished your weight loss goal, ease up on the cardio and add more weights - this will ehlp you gain muscle mass. Good Luck!
